Major Adware problems

Recommended Posts

Guest Steviec2k3

First, I'd just like to say that I do my absolute best to avoid these types of problems, and this is the first major investation of Ad/Spyware I've had.

It all started two days ago. I was visiting a message board I occasionally check out, and saw the one of the moderators had uploaded Eddie Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield from Judgment day. However, to download the file, you had to download this "Anti-Leech" program. Normally, I am not so quick to download programs I know nothing about. But since it was a mod that suggested the program, I went ahead and downloaded it.

And then it all went wrong.

Immediately, I was hit with ads, left and right. I immediately ran "Ad-Aware" and it found some problems, and fixed them. I then went back to surfing... when I noticed that my start page had been hijacked. I downloaded a program called HiJackThis!, but myself overwhelmed with all kinds of info that I knew nothing about, so I wasn't able to do much there. However, I did manage to take control of my start page. But the problems with the ads still persist.

And after running Ad-aware several times, I am getting the same files, even after deleting them previously. Furthermore, there are also some files that I am not able to delete, either from Ad-Aware or manually.

And I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but it started happening AFTER my previous problems, but in AIM, when I try and move an IM window around, it's very, very laggy. As far as I can tell, I haven't ran into this problem with any other sort of windowed program. I uninstalled and reinstalled AIM, but the problem still persists.
