If you could put 12 single games on one DVD

Recommended Posts

This is inspired by the new awesome Lakers & Bulls sets coming out, which for the first time ever I believe, include complete games as extras.

So if you had your own personal DVD made featuring 12 single games. They could be from any of the four major sports and length doesn't matter(ie. # of extra innings or overtimes). Basically what 12 games would you want to have for the rest of your life on DVD?

I'll reply later with mine.

Great topic. I guess my picks would be:

-Games 3 & 7 of the 2003 ALCS

-Superbowl XXXVI

-Superbowl XXXVIII (although this game is on the Pats' Superbowl DVD)

-The Snow Bowl (Oak-NE AFC Divisional playoff 2002)

-Game 6 of the 1975 World Series (and not just for the finish)

-The game in the 1984 NBA Finals that had the Celtics and Lakers fighting for everything and that almost turned into a brawl (Game 4?)

-Superbowl XXXII (just a very good game, and Elway gets his ring)

-The 1980 Miracle on Ice

-The women's billiards match where Jannette Lee wore an evening gown with a VERY low neckline (hey, it's MY DVD)

-Roger Clemens' 1st 20K game vs. Seattle in 1986

-Patriots vs. Bills Week 17, 2003 (Sweet, sweet revenge)

My picks:

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Philadelphia Flyers, Game 3, East Quarters 2003

- Simply, some of the greatest back and forth hockey I've ever seen and they keep it up for 3 OT's.

Detroit Red Wings vs St. Louis Blues, Game 7, West Semis 1996

- Another 3 OT classic featuring the all-star combo of Gretzky & Hull against the winngest team in NHL history...and my favorite celebration ever by Yzerman.

Green Bay Packers vs Denver Broncos, Super Bowl 32

- My fav Super Bowl game ever as tehy go back and forth and Elway fights to get that ring which long eluded him.

Toronto Raptors vs Philadelphia 76'ers, Game 7, East Semis 2001

- A horrible ending which gives me nightmares to this day...but a damn fine game and as close as the Raps have ever come to making the finals.

San Francisco 49'ers vs New York Giants, NFC Wild Card, 2002

- This was spectacular seeing the Niners get blown out through 3 quarters before staging a miracle 29 point comeback in the 4th and watching NYG self-destruct.

Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets, Game 6, West Finals 1997

- On one side Malone & Stockton, both ringless. On the other Sir Charles and Clyde, also both ringless. It looks like we're going to 7 as there are 2.8 secs left...and Stockton pulls a miracle three at the VERY last second to send the Jazz to the finals.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Philadelphia Phillies, Game 6, World Series 93

- One of THE defining games and moments in Canadian sports history.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Sacramento Kings, Game 7, West Finals 2002

- The final game of one of the greatest series I have ever seen. As an add-on I'd tack the end of Game 6 onto this, :P.

Edmonton Oilers vs Dallas Stars, Game 7, West Quarters 1997

- The Oilers pull a miracle on a brilliant goal by Todd Marchant and on the best save of 1997 by Curtis Joseph.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Buffalo Sabres, Game 7, East Semis 2001

- Mario's last run at the cup and just when it seems the Pens are done, Kasparitis drills a monster blast from the blue line in overtime.

Tennessee Titans vs St. Louis Rams, Super Bowl 34

- I hate the result but the game had one of the best and most exciting endings in NFL history.

Indianapolis Colts vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Monday Night Football 2003

- The greatest comeback I have ever witnessed as Indy is down 28 in the 4th and down 21 with under 3 minutes left yet pull of the comeback in OT.

EDIT: Jazz/Bulls is replaced by TB/Indy which I forgot about.

- 1992 NLCS Game 7 - Pittsburg vs. Atlanta - BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN

- 1995 World Series Game 6 - Cleveland vs. Atlanta - Tom Glavine throws a gem and Justice scores the games only run with a solo shot.

- 1999 NLCS Game 6(?) - New York Mets vs. Atlanta - Andruw Jones is walked to win the series

- 1992 NBA Finals Game 6 - Portland vs. Chicago - Portland dominates all game, in the 4th quarter the bench players make a huge run, Jordan comes in to finish it off and give the Bulls championship #2

- 1993 NBA Finals Game 6 - Chicago vs. Phoenix - Three pointer with a few seconds left gives the Bulls the lead and the title

- 1995 NBA, I think it was late March. Chicago vs. New York - In one of Jordan's first games back he scores 55 points. (I think it was 55)

- 1992 - Kentucky Vs. Duke from the NCAA Tournament

Hmm I need five more

2001 - World Series Arizona vs New York Yankees Game 7 - I don't like Arizona, but holy fuck was I celebrating after that one.

2002- World Series San Francisco vs Anaheim - Game 6 - I was so depressed when I thought Bond's was going to get a ring, then an amazing come back in the 7th and 8th innings saved it. I bought the World series 2002 dvd just for game 6 highlights

1992 - Olympic semi-finals and finals with the dream team. I absolutely loved watching the dream team when I was a kid. I watched and taped every game. I can't rememer any specificly good ones now, so I'll just go with the last two. The final was vs. Croatia I can remember that. Semi-final I dunno.

2001- June/July (I can't remember) Atlanta vs. Houstin. I can't remember who the runner was or who the batter was, but Atlanta has a 1 run lead in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, and there's a runner on I believe it was second base. The batter gets a hit deep to left field, and I thought great tie game. I think it was BJ Surhoff in left grabs the ball and throws it but his throw is off, so Furcal jumps, grabs the ball in the air, turns and throws an absolute bullet in midair to henry blanco to get the runner at the plate, game over.

What a fuckin' game. I thought Mario's goal with less than a minute left to tie the game after Hasek had been unbeatable the entire game was more dramatic, though.

I'm shocked noone has ever mentioned the Ice Bowl as one of the greatest NFL games, ever.

That game wasn't just great in terms of skill and talent, it was great in that it showed the will and determination to fight through the adverse conditions it was played in (-13 with a windchill of -49) and the awesome ending. It was the highlight of the 1960's Packer dynasty.

Also, noone mentioned the New York Giants/Baltimore Colts championship game played in the late 50's? (I forget which exact year) That usually gets the general consensus as the greatest game of all time.

It was 1958 and actually the consesus now is that it was probably the most overrated game ever. It got the label as "The Greatest Game Ever" because it was the first nationally televised game, the first overtime game, and it was played in New York and anything in New York gets over hyped. The game itself though was very sloppy and even the players from the game have said it wasn't played very well. It was certainly historic, on the level of Super Bowl III, but not the best game ever.

The greatest game ever in most circles would be the 1982 AFC Divisional Playoff between the Chargers and Dolphins with Kellen Winslow's incredible performance.

What was the MJ pushoff exactly? He pushed off and didn't get called on it thus giving the Bulls an unfair victory?

Define "unfair." There's TONS of stuff that doesn't get called in any given game.

Well I don't know if it was unfair. But people seem to talk about it as if it was.

Well if it was "Unfair", so was Reggie Miller's "Infamous" pushoff.

I don't remember anybody whining about that.

I LOVED the 1982 Dolphins-Chargers game. That kept me in insane suspense.

Super Bowl III is also overrated, though.

I don't remember anybody whining about that.

Actually Phil got fined after that game I believe. But anyway, why does no one whine about: Chicago 4, Indiana 3.

Anyway, my 12 games: (No order)

November 2002, Ohio State 13, Michigan 9 (Sure this wasn't the title game, but it was ironic that Michigan was the only team in the way of getting to the title game and Ohio State beating them after all the tries. Great intro video by ABC, very WWE-ish.

November 2002, Cincinnati Bengals 24, Kansas City Chiefs 16 (Video would not describe the stadium experience. Chiefs 1st loss, Peter Warrick has the game of his life and at the end the scoreboard shows the Bengals in first place.)

1980, USA v. USSR Miracle on Ice (Even watching this 24 years later, to me it still seems like "will they actually hold on?". This game is right up there will Carlton Fisk HR how history makes it seem like the Red Sox won the '75 Series and the USA/USSR game was for the gold medal.)

October 1956, NY Yankees 2, Brooklyn Dodgers 0 (I'd like a perfect game on there, and having one in the WS with I believe 7 Hall of Famers in that game.)

May 1997, Utah Jazz v. Houston Rockets, Game 6 (No title for the Jazz, as this is as close as it gets, but a great game by the Jazz, as they were down 15 in the 4th quarter, and the 3 pointer that woke my parents up.)

February 2004 AFC-NFC Pro Bowl (The notorious bad NFL exhibiton starts off great with a 90 yard TD pass, a blocked punt for a TD and a furious NFC comeback capped by an ironice ending as Mike Vanderjagt, with I believe 40 consecutive FG's misses to lose, don't remember the exact score, but both teams put up 50+.)

January 1998, Denver Broncos 31, Green Bay Packers 24 (Great game and the Elway dive is a great visual.)

January 2002, New England Patriots 17, Oakland Raiders 14 (Awesome visual, good finish, best field goal EVER made in NFL history to tie the game.)

January 2003, Andy Roddick d. Younes El Anouyi (Roddick wins in 5 sets, with the final set I believe 21-19. The final set last 2 1/2 hours.)

June 2002, USA 3, Mexico 2 World Cup Round of 16 (USA's biggest win in soccer history starts shockingly as USA storms to a 3-0 lead early and survives a late rally and no call on a Joe-Max Moore handball in the box on a corner. The rest of the world may hate us because of Bush and our "western way of life", but Mexicans hate the US National Team.)

October 2003, Boston Red Sox v. NY Yankees Game 7 (Yeah I dislike both teams, but a great ending to a great series, Aaron F'n Boone!)

And now for the obscure one, that was only on cable access:

November 7, 1998, Dayton 43, Towson 42 (This was a football game that saw Dayton up 28-7 with 6 minutes to play and I believe 29 points scored in the final 1:50!

This DVD is subject to change of course!
