Ripper 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 --because I'm so sure that Warner Bros. Interactive is run by the same people as the whole Warner Bros. empire. Seriously, that's probably as tough as they could get because the higher-ups may have only been talked into going that far. Here is a secret of business - If something consistant sells well, they don't give a shit about the quality. Anytime you hear a company say, "Well, its not important if it made us lots of money...WHAT DID THE REVIEWS SAY?" they are bullshiting. Casual gamers know nothing about this and wills till buy or rent the movie inspired games reguardless. More serious gamers hear this and say "YAY WB is putting its foot down. Their games are probably going to get better because of this." and that will get them a few more sales. That is the purpose of this. If they sale their lisense to a company and they produce a game that sells millions but gets bad reviews, they would still sell the next lisense to them because Millions always > Bad reviews. ALWAYS or you aren't going to be running a business very long.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure that how the game sells doesn't really matter. Once the game developer pays their licensing fees, WB doesn't get any more. There may be a cut of each x units sold, but just the way I think it is. Casual gamers know nothing about this and wills till buy or rent the movie inspired games reguardless. That's because they're stupid. I'll admit I've bought licensed games merely because of the license....back when I first started playing games...and was 12 years old. What's the excuse of all these stupid jackasses? More serious gamers hear this and say "YAY WB is putting its foot down. Their games are probably going to get better because of this." and that will get them a few more sales. That is the purpose of this. Uh, no they won't, at least not from me. As I said, all this means is that developers will at least need to make their game mediocre. That doesn't mean quality. If they sale their lisense to a company and they produce a game that sells millions but gets bad reviews, they would still sell the next lisense to them because Millions always > Bad reviews. ALWAYS or you aren't going to be running a business very long. Of course, because the game company bears the risk. If they sell the license to them and the game bombs, WB won't care since they got their money. This could be a positive step but until it's proven this will have any teeth, it's just lip service. However, if you remember correctly, back in the 16 bit days when WB licensed to Konami, nearly all their games kicked ass.
