Yesterday, after going home, I attempted to get on TSM (as I usually do), but I received the message "could not access forums.thesmartmarks.com"

After asking a couple fellow board members if the board was down and having them tell me they could access it just fine, I went to my other computer to check, just to make sure it wasn't an issue with the first comp (like how the cookies were preventing me from anon-login), again, same issue.

"Connection timed out trying to access forums.thesmartmarks.com"

Then, just to make sure it wasn't maybe a temporary issue, I attempted to access TSM again this morning before leaving for work (where I am now) and the same thing happened.

What the hell is wrong?

Update: I also brought my comp to work today to work on technical stuff, and I tested it out and can access TSM fine from it on this network, so it's not a software issue.

Something about IP resolution maybe?

Hit Start, and then "run". Type CMD into the box, and type:

ping google.com [enter]

This will bring up a bunch of stats (hopefully) or will time out (doubtful)

Then try:

ping thesmartmarks.com [enter]

Hopefully you'll get the stats again

Finally:

ping forums.thesmartmarks.com [enter]

And tell me if it times out or whether you get a bunch of stats

Do you run AOL or any variant of it?

Negative. I use DSL (SBC) at home and a university server at work

Nik, I'll try you're idea when I get home, but that won't be for another couple hours.

there are so many jokes to make here.

Why can't this be someone else?

After following IO's suggestion, as well as restarting my router and reconnecting thru a different IP, the problem seems to be fixed now

So apparently TSM didn't like whatever IP I had before...

I can second that, smartmarks.com and forums.smartmarks.com both crap out when you have certain SBC IP's.

Another way to test it is to use

http://www.anonymizer.com/index.cgi

at the top of the page you can type in IP's. Sometimes I can get to sites that have banned the random SBC DSL IP you get assigned. Generally a reboot of the modem will get you a new IP but leave it off for a few seconds to help insure it.
