Guest croweater Report post Posted June 8, 2004 Dookie and Nimrod are ***** albums. Dude, I like greenday and all, and I know everything is personal opinion, but do you really believe that those are 5* albums?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 8, 2004 He thinks EVERYTHING is a five star album, just look at that thread. He had like, 10 mad examples in every post it seemed.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted June 8, 2004 I know you're mainly a metalhead, Agent (well from what I gather anyway). So just out of curiousity, which current day non-metal bands/singers do you enjoy?? Look, I love Green Day but even Dookie really struggles to crack 5 stars. I'd probably give it to them as a fan, but Nimrod doesn't get there for mine. Looking forward to their new album though. Back on topic, I did post this before anything had been made official, sorry about that. My source is pretty much Triple M, but the band has made no statement at this time. It seems that the bassist won't go back though. That by no means would indicate they'll split, of course.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted June 9, 2004 in crack-laced Australia, at least. So there's the problem. Solved.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 9, 2004 I listen to more stuff that isn't metal than is. For modern stuff, I can't really be bothered, as it's all been solid feces for the past few years. I can't think of a really good example off the top of my head. Maybe some Radiohead. If we go back a few years though, there's tons. I pick and choose things that range from Ravi Shankar to Captain Beefheart. Love a lot of older blues stuff, too. Basically, I think music had gotten worse as time has gone on, with the exception of heavy metal, which just gets better. Hey, Twista. I kinda like him, he's fairly recent. As far as mainstream radio rock goes, if it charts, chances are I'll hate it, but not because it's on the charts. Dark Side of the Moon is in my 20 favorite albums, and it was on there longer than anything. It's just the current state of the music industry, and what they can get away with feeding people. Jet, Nickleback, Three Doors Down, Clay Aiken (for a gay pop example), and the entire ameoba of pop country sputum have nothing to offer the world musically. If one happens to be amused by this, they should try putting their fingers close to their eyes and squish some people's heads. They'd probably die laughing. I tend to ask more from the world of music than the three-chord rockers who don't even try can offer. I'm not satisfied with something that the general consensus deems is "ok background music" just because it's popular, or because it's "there." It has no reason to be "there." Does no one else get sick and tired of listening to the same top 40 every week? Those things are based solely on sales which are based almost entirely on the money backing the album. That meaning its promotion, yadda yadda. Then the shit is on tv and radio all the time, and people just accept it for what it is? That's fucking lazy and tasteless. This is why I hope file sharing kills the industry dead. Deader than dead. So dead it will NEVER recover. I don't want anyone to form a band JUST to get rich ever again. It's a sickening mockery of what always has the potential to be beautiful art, and it pisses me off severely. Go to college, get a job if you just want to be rich. Don't pollute the airwaves, the record stores, and people's brains if you don't have a basic pure love of what you're doing, and are doing it for the sake of your art. The intermittent "yous" I threw in there aren't directed at anyone, I just got rolling and felt like I was yelling at someone. Fuck Rock Brands, and give me something that has the balls to stand out, even if it means taking a hit (or not) in the pocketbook.

haVoc 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 The Vines Leave Incubus Hanging Band backs out of tour... The Vines backed out on their tour with Incubus, which was set to begin June 24. They would have been touring in support of their second album, Winning Days, which has sold 129,000 copies in the United States and debuted at No. 23 on The Billboard 200. The band had the following to say; "The decision has been made to take a break to deal with the mental and physical exhaustion issues the band currently face," reads a statement from the group. It adds, "The Vines have not broken up. The band would like to sincerely apologize to Incubus, our fans and friends. We would like to thank everyone close to us for the continued support." Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted June 11, 2004 Oh fuck that stupid cunt of a band up their stupid cunts of asses. I highly doubt that majority of the Incubus audience really gave a shit about them bailing out, but it's the principle.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 Shit...and I was gonna go see them, too... Ah well. I still got Interpol and The Cure (Yeah...FOR FREE.) and why all The Strokes hate? I, being probably one of the biggest Strokes fans on the boards, would like to hear opinions.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted June 17, 2004 How can you be a fan of both The Cure and The Vines? And where is this free gig?
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 The gig is at Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, CA. and why can't I like both The Cure and The Vines?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 17, 2004 How can you be a fan of both The Cure and The Vines? Probably because he dares to like more than one genre of music. I don't like the Strokes because I'm positive I've had to sit through an entire album, and I don't remember one thing that stuck out. To the middle of the road with that stuff.. To the middle of the road with that stuff.. That's fair enough. To me, it doesn't get any better than listening to "Is This It" and "Room on Fire" back to back on a long car trip. also, Agent: What metal bands would you recommend? I'm kinda a fan of Blind Guardian and not-so-much-so for In Flames. Also, have you ever heard of Amon Amarth? Good Viking metal right there.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 18, 2004 Eew. Blind Guardian. You have cooties. Go hang out with Thumbtack.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 18, 2004 Eh, they don't bother me any. I go more for scathing grindcore and swampy death, though. Check out some Pig Destroyer.
