dubq 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Have I ever mentioned how much I fucking hate Toronto? The Liberals have ruined the country in the past 11 years and are a bunch of criminals that were caught red-handed, but Ontario and especially Toronto gave them another governement. This is a dark day for Canada. C'mon dude, it's not that fair to generalize us all here in TO. A lot of us voted anything BUT red. The Liberal's as a minority government will be largely ineffectual and 10 bucks [Canadian] says that there'll be another election in two years or less. I really feel sorry for you guys that live in TO, but are intelligent enough not to vote Liberal. The Liberals won 44 seats in Toronto though. It is just rediculous. What really worries me isn't so much the outcome of this election, but if the majority of Toronto is still so forgiving of the Liberals, I'm an extremely worried that Dalton McGuinty will get re-elected. Bob Rae destroyed the province 15 years ago, and now McGuinty is doing the exact same things. Give him two terms and we will be bankrupt. It affects me more directly than anything the feds can do. I have to echo your sentiments 110% there. McGuinty is a wretched swine. I really don't get this province's obsession with the Libs. Seriously. I realize that they think Mike Harris = The Devil and therefore means that all Conservatives are as well, but this is just ridiculous.

Ontarians, especially big-city Ontarians, just refuse to vote for a party that has someone like Randy White as its outer face, whether that image be real or perceived. The Conservatives have a lot of work to do in getting the dinosaurs out of their party and moderating their image.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Lets see, Rae destroyed Ontario basically, Harris/Eves didn't improve it, yet Dalton gets blamed by trying to make it better, but can't? Who can they vote for really? Green? The Communist party?

Bob Rae destroyed the province 15 years ago, and now McGuinty is doing the exact same things. Give him two terms and we will be bankrupt. It affects me more directly than anything the feds can do. Provincially, I voted PC, and the guy I voted for (Frank Klees) is still my MPP. The provincial Liberals don't have a fucking clue, and apparently still haven't learned from the Peterson government. Bob Rae is a nice enough guy, but his term as Premier was disastrous, and showed that the NDP methodology isn't very good on a provincial level in Ontario. I think Klees is going to make a run for Tory leadership, so we'll see how that goes. Federally, we still don't know a lot about the Conservative Party, since they're still trying to find their legs. But I'd think that you'd fall back on what's familiar to you and for Harper that's his Reform/"Alliance" roots. I'm not a big fan of Martin either, so for me the decision came down to voting for who was running in my riding. That guy happened to be a Liberal who has a long history with the riding going back to his days as a councilman, he's still the MP (by a wide margin), and I'm comfortable with that. By the next election though, I'll probably be in a different riding, so I'll be taking a good look at how the Conservatives stack up.
Highland 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Can we get one of those nifty maps of Canada, with the ridings color coded according to who won? Sure, but it's in PDF format.

Who can they vote for really? Green? The Communist party? Harris & Eves did improve the situation. They managed to cut the deficit by $9 billion and saved the economy with their tax cuts. Dalton is making things worse, back to the NDP days.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2004 BTW, I forgot to mention earlier, but Conservative Bev Oda did defeat Liberal Tim Lang (son of the former Trudeau cabinet minister) in my riding of Clarington-Scugog-Uxbridge. Our MPP, John O'Toole, who was critical of the Eves administration, has thrown his support behind John Tory in the Ontario PC leadership race. I would not be surprised to see him get a cabinet position in 4 years.
