The Czech Republic Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I was thinking of going bald after graduation and letting it grow until the end of freshman year so as not to waste money on haircuts. Plus it seems like one of those eccentric things to do. Things to consider: I'm white. I may have an odd contour to my head that I don't know about. (Bumps?) I already have some weird scar on the back of my head from a fetal monitor. Is it worse the rithk?
Golgo 13 Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I've done this a few times, either letting it grow out or continuing to shave afterward. Just go for it. Unless someone is a sickeningly pale shade of white, in which case a shaved head usually doesn't look good, it's not a big deal. Scars, contours and such aren't too much of a problem; only if you had your sights set on shaving regularly, which it looks like you don't. If you do have regrets, the hair grows out fast enough. In a couple weeks time it should be long enough that any weirdness is covered up well, and in a few months it will be back to a manageable length.
Guest JacK Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Are you British? For some reason that look seems to work for Brits. I don't quite get it. You might as well give it a go, I mean what's the worse thing that could happen? It won't grow back? Someone will go 'damn shaved-headed FREAK I KILL YOU!!!!!'? Might as well.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 As an adamant longhair, I say thee nay.
nl5xsk1 Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Do it ... come to the dark side. I've been shaving my head for almost 10 years now, and don't know if I'll ever grow it back (unless some day a girlfriend becomes a wife that keeps my balls in her purse and demands that I do so. Then, if she's hot enough, maybe. But I digress ...).
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I did it for about two years. You'll find there are girls who really dig that look (though they're in the minority). Also, my years as a skinhead presented the only time in my life when I could pass as "intimidating," which I would occasionally use to my advantage.
Guest croweater Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I have never seen anyone look good with a shaved head. Me included.
Fuzzy Dunlop Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I was thinking about doing this, too, just because I never know what to tell the haircut lady, but when I was a little kid I was a pale little white boy, but after growing and spending lots of time at the beach, I've gotten a nice tan that occassionally even sticks around during winter. My question to you is won't the top of my head still be pale, thus in contrast to the rest of me?
Slayer Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Didn't we have this discussion before? Anyways, as someone who has gone both ways (shaved and long), I can attest to two things 1. I've always thought that, for the most part, only thick/built people look good with shaved heads. If you're lanky and you shave it, something just doesn't look right with it. 2. I usually see shaving head only as a last resort if you have those bad genes that make hair gradually disappear from the top of your head. That could be you in a couple of years (as it may be me), so enjoy your hair now while you still have it and shave it later in life.

You'll just look sickly if you're pasty white with a blad head. I'm bald in the summer but I have darker skin than the average caucasian. I'll say for the most part the girls hate it. My ladyfriend does, but unfortunately at this juncture in our relationship, her opinion doesn't matter much. With so many losers scraggling their hair out like a bunch of fuck ups, I feel having a shaved head is a distinctive way of sticking out. Spring forth son, its cheap and accomodating with the summer weather. Shave! Uncle Chevy says so.
Slayer Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 With so many losers scraggling their hair out like a bunch of fuck ups, I feel having a shaved head is a distinctive way of sticking out. I see a lot more shaved-headed men then I do scragglers Plus it's much easier to shave your head and keep it that way than it is to grow it out and keep it that way, so I wouldn't call it distinctive.
PLAGIARISM! Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I can safely say that were I to shave my head, I would look mentally ill. If I have my hair short, I look like a lesbian. I keep with the sweeping tidal wave side mohawk arrangement for the most part.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Well about the people I hang out with and see - They try to have the whole Strokes and other long haired deal.
Slayer Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Well about the people I hang out with and see - They try to have the whole Strokes and other long haired deal. Ewww... my sympathies I have regular ol' shoulder length hair myself, no stupid indy rock hair cut If I start to go bald, I'll go the Kerry King route and shave it off while growing a monster goatee (minus tribal tattoos)
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I just remembered the only full-on bald picture of me on the internet—which you guys have seen—makes me look like an AIDS patient. When I'd wear a beanie in the winter, I was more of a chemo guy.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 You must have just the right head shape for bald to work. Bald just doesn't seem to work on a lot of white guys, while it seems that any black guy can shave his head and make it work. When I see a guy who's bald on top, I always wonder why they don't shave the rest. The sides and back only hair look, is a hundred times worse than completely bald.
Anakin Flair Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 I thought about it once, but I didn't think it was apropriate for my workplace- a Jewish temple.

Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 It gets down into the 30s in the winter months, so yeah, head gear becomes a necessity, especially with no hair.
Guest Vitamin X Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Where in Florida do YOU live? In Miami, it never gets colder than the 50's.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Yeah, far Northern Florida gets cold in the winter. If you're moving to Florida for year round nice weather you gotta go far South.
Slayer Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Last XMas I drove through the Florida panhandle on I-10... the weather was beautiful (60 degrees IIRC) and the scenery made the drive fly by That's the kind of weather I wish I had right now... I hate summer
Guest El Satanico Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 60's for winter highs...no no that's not enough. I must have at least 70's during winter, so If I ever end up moving to Florida it'll be far South.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 You clowns think 30 is cold? Even hat weather? Please.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Oh, hush. When you've lived in the south all your life, it is cold.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Oooh, brr, the breeze off the bathwater ocean almost gives me goosebumps, break out the sleigh and mittens. Just be glad you don't get OCEAN effect snow, because that shit's mean coming off the lake..
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 I'll take one of your winters for one of our suffocatingly humid summers. Including my car, which has no air conditioning.
