RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Verissimo should have won it - just to spice up the welterweight division.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 BTW, in case you aren't following elsewhere, Baroni got BarOWNED. Tanned by UD, but there was only about 10 seconds of Baroni action. Seems retarded he would change his style so much, considering he dominated the last fight.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Interesting to know... I had Baroni as my prediction though I should have went with my gut in Tanner Bushido III is fucking rocking right now, so instead of the UFC review I'll do a Bushido review. You can dl it on Suprnova, its about 1.7 Gb. But every fight thus far have been great.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Oh, and keep up the commentary and opinions Pin, at least I can vicariously live through the event if I can't watch it
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Well Frank Mir just won in 50 seconds by breaking Sylvia's arm.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 It looked like bullshit at first. Mir had Sylvia in an arm bar and the ref suddenly waved it off. But in a replay you could clearly see Sylvia's forearm pop.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 And I am fucking tired of the camera shots of Cindy Crawford. There have been at least a half dozen of them. Christ, if this was UFC 1 (where she was last relevant) it wouldn't be as bad.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 HOLY SHIT!!! That's really fucking surprising. Go Mir! Mir vs. Arlovski is going to fucking rule!
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 LOL that's typical UFC! Joe Rogan: Hey Cindy, who do you think will win Shamrock or Kimo? Cindy: Uhhh... Kimo? Joe Rogan: You heard it here, Cindy Crawford - star of Fair Game - is picking Kimo! *Michael Clarke Duncan walks by* Joe: Hey look, it's Michael Clarke Duncan! Who do you think will win? MCD: Tito! He's my boy! Joe: Tito isn't fighting. MCD: Shamrock? Joe: Yeah, he's fighting. MCD: Then him. *Shaq walks by* ... They're shameless.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Thank god they haven't talked to her....yet.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 And I am loving the fact they are being sponsored by vodka tonight. Joe Rogan: This is the kind of bullshit this sports doesn't need!!! But here is a replay brought to you by 42 Below, vodka from New Zealand.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Trigg beats the fuck out of Hallman to win at 3:30 Rd1. Boring first minute and a half to two minutes, but when Hallman went for a leg lock he left himself open. After that Trigg just pounded the shit out of him. Then gave him the double middle finger. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 UFC and Alcohol just makes sense - how else can you explain the appeal of Tank Abbott. Infact, they should have a fight where both guys get drunk-as-hell and then go at it in the octagon.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Hopefully Kimo-Ken goes quick so they can throw another fight on the telecast.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 They are showing another fight before the main (St. Pierre - Heiron). That is fucking sweet.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 St Pierre~! That's awesome. Him vs. Hughes is the money.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 St. Pierre wins at 1:45 of RD1 by strikes. Heiron got knocked loopy a couple of times by punches, then Heiron went down and St.Pierre rained in elbows for the stoppage. No wonder they had no problems sneaking it in before the main.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Then he botched a back flip celebration (landed on his knees), but followed nicely with a spinaroonie and a mediocre kip up. And they are confirming a broken forearm on Sylvia.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 I have to laugh in the preview package Shamrock talking about his biggest strength being his heart. Didn't he stop the Fujita fight, because he thought he was having a heart attack?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 There's various reports on that, but to me it looked more like exhaustion. Shamrock doesn't really have much heart - his fucking perspective on fighting is "I don't have to beat them, they have to beat me".
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 FUCK! They are now doing the interview the celebs segment. Carlos Newton is in attendance and picks Ken, Tim, and Hughes. (well 1-1, though should be 0-2 so far.) Cindy Crawford says absolutely nothing. "I hope to make it through, this is my first fight." WTF does that even mean? Make it through? Is she fucking afraid of falling asleep of something. Give the fucking ticket to someone who wants it.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Maybe she's afraid of the blood and gore and violence 2 old guys well past their prime can muster up.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 And how over is Kimo? For some reason, in all the fights I've seen him in, he's been a huge fan favourite.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 They both seemed to get a decent sized reaction. Didn't notice too well, however, as I was not paying attention to the entrances.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 During intros Shamrock's reaction sounded a little bigger.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Shamrock wins at 1:23 in RD 1 via KO. They spent the whole time in the clinch trading knees to the body. Shamrock got one through and down went Kimo.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 So much for Kimo saying he wanted in the HW title scene.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Fights not shown: Serra via decision Prangley via sub in Rd 2 (side choke/neck crank combo thingamajig)
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 So overall Pin, what were your impressions?? Is it worth the download (that will hopefully be up sometime this week)?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Overall thoughts: Baroni/Tanner - From this point forward Baroni's entrance should consist of him coming down to the ring in a little yellow bus. Flashback to Baroni/Tanner I, Baroni dominated that fight before the cut stoppage. After that, he seemed to gas and fell victim to a takedown which put him in position to be stopped. So one would think that the best way to train would be to just work on his cardio so he doesn't gas out in two minutes. Instead he appears to drop a bunch of weight, looks a good bit softer than the first fight, and has no energy. Tanner controlled the standup, taking shots whenever he wanted. Baroni had a 10-15 second flurry in round 3 that brough a little drama into the equation and rocking Tanner a couple of times. But in the end it was all Tanner. He controlled the standup, he controlled position against the cage, and Baroni had no answer. Hughes/Verissimo - Best fucking round I ever saw (not fight as I said before, note to self never post while a fight is still going on). Very reminiscent of Saku/Rampage, where Verissimo would lock on an armbar and Hughes would pick him up and slam. Verissimo then locked on a triangle and Hughes appeared to go for another slam. This time, however it did not happen, and Hughes fell still trapped in the triangle. Attempting to escape he rolled onto his back, resulting in Verissimo having Hughes in a triangle while in the mount position. This position loosened the choke, though, and Hughes eventually escaped again. The round finished with Verissimo repeatedly going for a triangle and Hughes escaping. Round 2 went much the same way as Round 1 finished, with Hughes getting the takedown and getting in Verissimo's guard. Verissimo again tried for triangles and armbars, but could not get anything locked in. Round 3, Hughes was able to get Verissimo down at will, but just went into a L&P for the whole round. An arguement could be made that Hughes had enough control of the fight to win, but IIRC two judges had the fight 30-27. There is no way that Hughes won the first round as Verissimo had Hughes trapped in numerous subs. Hughes was able to escape them, but did nothing other than escape subs. Mir/Sylvia - Mir gets Sylvia in an armbar. Mir breaks Sylvia's forearm. Don't have any more to say than that. Hallman/Trigg - This fight had me worried to start as it was boring as fuck for the first couple of minutes. Then Trigg got a takedown and into Hallman's guard. Hallman eventually got into position to go for a leglock which was the beginning of the end for him. Hallman held onto the leg while getting pounded, but he never had position to lock it. They were in the same position as Couture/Ortiz ended where Couture was just sitting on him. Hallman was not going to get Trigg's leg extended, so the only purpose his attempt served was to get the shit kicked out of him. Trigg started pounding and by the time Hallman let go, Trigg already had position and was raining in blows. The double middle finger by Trigg was a nice touch. St. Pierre/Heiron - Apparently, Heiron is an expert in boxing and wrestling. If that is the case then it just speaks more about St.Pierre. He won the standup battle, rocking Heiron a couple of times. Eventually, dropping him with a shot he pounced on the downed Heiron and threw elbows for the stoppage. Shamrock/Kimo - They immediately get in the clinch and trade knees to the body. They get against the cage, where Kimo drops his head. One knee to the face later and Kimo's dream of being in the HW title hunt is gone. Overall - I was very happy with this show. The two matches that went to a decision were good and from that point on we got finishes which are also good. It was a nice mix of quality fights and highlight reel material.
