Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty defeated Steve Lombardi & Terry Gibbs at 3:11 when Jannetty pinned Lombardi with a suplex / crossbody combo (Rockers' debut, although aired after their TV debut taped the next day)

Being the huge Rockers mark that I am, I *think* it was Tom Stone in this match, not Terry Gibbs. I'm pretty sure I have this match on tape.

just had a look at that episode and it was definitely not Terry Gibbs, but I couldn't tell who the other guy was as the intoductions of Lombardi and the other guy were cut out and Monsoon or Heenan never mentioned either guy. Also I'm almost certain there was no Rougeaus/Bees match at this taping, because the match in question aired on Superstars and was recorded the next day in Oakland. It aired on 7/2 and was the second to last match before the Rude squash and the finish and result of the match are most definitely right. Interestingly enough this is also the final appearance of the Bees as a tag team wrestling on either Superstars and Challenge even though they didn't split up until September as they were still doing Event Center promos then

that particular 40 Man Battle Royal didn't air on PTW, the one that was won by the Berzerker did which I think you have on your website anyway

Just thought I would post this which someone put on the Maple Leaf Wrestling section of Kayfabe Memories:

London is in Ontario, a few hours west of Toronto, in the southern Ontario horn. MLW and the WWF ran several cities in southern Ontario, and, as another poster pointed out, there were frequently TV tapings in Brantford. I believe Kitchener and Hamilton had a few, too. One of the reasons McMahon wanted the territory was because he could market to a very large population base in a concentrated geographical area. You would always see Billy Red Lyons come on and promote all the cities in Ontario that the WWF would be hitting in the coming weeks.

Now, the Billy Jack Haynes vs Hercules chain match on Even More Unusual Matches. I'm not sure if you have that tape Graham but I know it is definitely somewhere in Ontario, Canada as the guy who ring announced all WWF shows in Ontario from 86-early 90s is announcing plus Billy Red Lyons is commentating and only commentated shows in Canada. I dont know if you have noticed that the arena is quite small and they have those red steps at the apron of the ring in the middle.

I have one other match from that same show which is Brad Rheingans pinning Terry Gibbs. I noticed during commentary that Gorilla Monsoon talked about how Bobby Heenan was now managing the Islanders. This only first aired on Superstars on 5/31/87 which means this show in Canada must have been in late May or early June (matches at house shows are normally taped and aired anytime within 1 to 4 weeks later on PTW). What I am wondering is do you think there is a chance that these matches were both at this show in Kitchener?

Also one other thing to add in the Rougeaus vs Hercules/Gibbs match, I think it is hilarious because Hercules and Raymond actually have an Arm Wrestling match on the floor inside the ring which is rather strange to see!

Richard,

Thanks for the note. Before I actually label it a TV taping, I'm hoping I can get ahold of an old Observer and get the other matches that were taped that night.

Guest Trivia247

From what I remember the WWF had a heavier House show load because they had a Large roster back then and pretty much everyone worked. so when there is a television event.... whomever was not on that card is off in the house show

A house show on the same night as a TV taping? What would be the purpose of that?

If the same talent was on both shows, I would have my doubts as to the accuracy of the info. But when the house show is a rinky dink high school spot show where the only names previously announced were nowhere near the top of the card, I'm pretty sure it's correct.

are you sure this taping was in Rockford, IL? I always fought seen as though they were in Madison, WI for Superstars, they were in LaCrosse, WI the next day.

But you have the LaCrosse show as the day after the Superstars taping in Duluth, MN in May, but I also thought that Challenge taping was in Rochester, MN, have I been misled somewhere?
