MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 I swear I heard Beane gave Kotsay and even longer extension. Also Tejada's contract is back-loaded, how could A's ownership(which was told it could allow Tejada free because of Crosby by Beane) not even attempt an extension? Because Crosby projects to be as good as Tejada. The better question is why should organizations waste money on overrated players. If you're going to spend money, spend it on a position at which you actually need a player. Well, I'd like to point out that Tejada is 1000x > Deivi Cruz. Julio tried to blow another save vs the D-Rays but the O's pulled it out. Next Os game - Tuesday vs Arizona (Randy Johnson vs Sidney Fatso)
Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Borowski's injury is a fake, they're just trying to hide him and get him some "rehab" starts. My reasoning is that no team could possibly have this many trips to the DL in a season, and I was very happy to see Hawkins get the save.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Just because they've had a lot of guys on the DL doesn't mean it's a fake. I could see them wanting to get him some rehab starts just to get some confidence back, but I'd buy the injury, if for no other reason than Borowski hasn't looked at all like he did last season. And I was happy to see Hawkins get the save, too, but he didn't look all that comfortable out there. Better than Borowski, but they're obviously going to let guys like Farns and Beltran take a stab at closing games out while Borowski is on the DL. After all, they would still like Farns to be a closer someday (not all that likely now) and they see Beltran being their closer eventually.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Well, I'd like to point out that Tejada is 1000x > Deivi Cruz. No insult towards the Orioles intended. They needed a shortstop, and got a good one. The Athletics just had an obvious candidate who performed well in the PCL, so there was no need to resign Tejada. Besides, they'll get two players out of the deal in tomorrow's draft. As for Borowski, I buy the injury because his BB:K ratios are terrible, unlike the rest of his career.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 7, 2004 The Marlins are kicking around the idea of acquiring Royals CF Carlos Beltran for prospects, then shipping Beltran to the Yankees for RHP Jose Contreras, assuming the Yankees would pay nearly all of the approximately $20 million that Contreras is owed through 2006. The Marlins would use Contreras as a reliever, going with RHP Chad Fox, Contreras and RHP Armando Benitez in the late innings after Fox returns from an elbow injury--a significant upgrade for a bullpen that began the week 12th in the National League in ERA. A more realistic trade could involve Marlins OF Abraham Nunez and Royals RH reliever Jason Grimsley. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=insi...v=tsn&type=lgns
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 All I'm hoping for in the draft is that the A's get Danny Putnam of Stanford.
