Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Pulp Fiction is one motherfucking great movie. I hate bandwagons, but Tarentino has never made anythign resembling an average film....they're all amazing.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted June 7, 2004 My theory was that since it's fresher in everyone's mind, then usually it's your favorite over something older. Or we just got a bunch of Closet-Tarantino fans. I'm amazed still that THREE of his movies made the Semis.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I'm amazed still that THREE of his movies made the Semis. Me too, especially since he's only done 4 or 5.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I think Kill Bill Vol. 2 was his 5th movie if I recall correctly.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Jackie Brown Kill Bill. I'm not going to fucking count Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 as two seperate films. Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Aliens, and Terminator 2 > Pulp Fiction. Have a good night, everyone, and be sure to tip your waitress!
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 7, 2004 My theory was that since it's fresher in everyone's mind, then usually it's your favorite over something older. I think the "fresher in mind" theory is a bit iffy. For example, I watched Reservoir Dogs not too long ago, but I still prefer Goodfellas over RD, even though RD is "fresher" in my mind. I don't have a problem with the winner because Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies. Pulp Fiction received the most amount of nominations and was the runner-up in the last favorite movie tournament, so I'm not surprised that it won. However, I was surprised at the amount of love that Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Reservoir Dogs got. I liked both of those movies, but I probably wouldn't put them over some of the movies eliminated in earlier rounds. I'm amazed still that THREE of his movies made the Semis. Me too, especially since he's only done 4 or 5. I was kinda surprised too. I still find it weird that the Tarantino movies weren't matched up against each other until the semi-finals. If I hadn't gone with random matches in each round, the tournament would probably have been a lot different.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I'm not going to fucking count Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 as two seperate films. Apples and Oranges. If they are release sepereately, they are two different films, even if it's just a broken in half for a sequel. It's called milking it. Otherwise the Star Wars trilogy would be one film too. justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Were the Star Wars films all shot at the same time and then cut in half?
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Were the Star Wars films all shot at the same time and then cut in half? they were all part of the original script (pretty long script I'd say), but it was way too long. So Lucas decided to split it up into three parts. Maybe that's a little bit different, but the original idea of his was to have all of the stuff from the original three in one (except that would've sucked)
spiny norman 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Should the Lord Of The Rings movies all be counted as one? Or the two Matrix seuqels (though God forbid if they end up in a movie tournament). Yes, I think Kill Bill should have been one three to four hour film, but I think as two films it was inoffensive and managed to work.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Oh, I'm not saying that it didn't "work". The only thing is that I refuse to say that he's directed 5 seperate movies. That's just silly.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Aliens, and Terminator 2 > Pulp Fiction. Oh, get the fuck out of here with that fanboy shit. I like BTTF and Ghostbuster, fuck the other two, but Pulp Fiction is the superior film.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted June 8, 2004 Well, I'm glad about that. Kill Bill looked like the surefire winner. And Corey, Ghostbusters at least is so not better than Pulp Fiction. Askewniverse, thanks for a proper tournament.
Guest TonyJaymzV1 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 I prefer Reservoir Dogs. Me too, RD is my favorite Tarantino movie. Kill Bill? Eh, it's pretty okay for me, nopt my fave not the worse, but I know a kid who loves it so much, he saw each Volume like 20 time in theater's, always talks about how its the best movie since 94(Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction says he) and how Kill Bill is the bes movie ever, bar none, etc. Yeah the kid is an uber nerd. Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 If Kill Bill is anyone's favourite movie of all time, they really need to see more movies. Or be hit around the head until they admit their stupidity.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 8, 2004 I liked Kill Bill, but I think it's overrated. I might put it on a "Top 20" favorite movies list, but I wouldn't call it one of the best movies ever. Looking back through the tourney, I just noticed that Jackie Brown wasn't even nominated. That kinda makes me wonder how far JB would have gotten in the tourney. Askewniverse, thanks for a proper tournament. This was a proper tournament? (I'd put one of the smilies here, but I hate using them).
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 Sorry, but I will forever feel that Ghostbusters is better than anything Tarantino has ever done. Why? Because the jokes are timeless, most are hidden (if you saw the movie as a young'un, there's no way in hell you understood half of the Venkman character said), and it's something the whole family can enjoy. Take out the cursing and graphic violence? Pulp Fiction is barely watchable. True, I think Pulp Fiction is a great film, but c'mon. How is it better than the boys in gray? Take out the cursing and graphic violence? Pulp Fiction is barely watchable. True, I think Pulp Fiction is a great film, but c'mon. How is it better than the boys in gray? the only major thing 'ghostbusters' really has going for it is the jokes, and 'pulp fiction' is almost as funny. 'pulp fiction' has better-developed characters. 'pulp fiction' has more tension. the dramatic subplots in 'pulp fiction' actually WORK and MEAN SOMETHING (as opposed to the half-assed venkman/dana barett love story and the retarded EPA thing). the surprises in 'pulp fiction' are real surprises. 'ghostbusters' is standard formula stuff, and you know what you're going to get by about the 10-minute mark.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 9, 2004 "I just shot Marvin in the face." I actually liked Kill Bill the most of all his stuff, but that's because it was the most violent, and I love how the whole thing centers on revenge. That's a great idea. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 'pulp fiction' has better-developed characters. I'll give you that. 'pulp fiction' has more tension. Well, considering Ghostbusters is a family comedy, and Pulp Fiction is a graphic drama made for mature audiences, I happen to believe Tarantino could get away with more than Aykroyd, Ramis, and Reitman could. the dramatic subplots in 'pulp fiction' actually WORK and MEAN SOMETHING (as opposed to the half-assed venkman/dana barett love story and the retarded EPA thing). Walter Peck, the EPA agent, is what led to the containment unit blowing up, and thus the bringing of Gozer into our dimension. The EPA sub-plot lead to the climax point of the movie. I fail to see how that never went anywhere. As for Venkman/Dana? Dana was the first person to not fall for Venkman's awful one-liner's, and that made Venkman want to impress her all the more. Berrett is also the "damsel in distress" character, as Venkman loved her to the extent where he was willing to sacrifice his own life - as well as the existence of our dimension - to save her. the surprises in 'pulp fiction' are real surprises. 'ghostbusters' is standard formula stuff, and you know what you're going to get by about the 10-minute mark. I somehow didn't expect a giant marshmallow man to crush a church, or the EPA to shut the GB's down. I also didn't expect the ass-rape scene, but really, how many movies with a sodomy scene DO you expect? Oh, and JSYK? Cartoon came out in 1986. Movie in 1984. Original script for the movie, which took place in outer space and in the far future, was written in 1981-1982 just before Belushi died. So, basically, don't try to get into a GB argument with me, haha.
