Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Breaks...

Recommended Posts

Talk about box office records is just pointless dick waving anymore. None of the records mean anything now, because it's when not if they will be broken.

Now that the whole industry is all about big openings, total gross is the only number worth talking about.

Agreed, the only time looking at opening weekends is fun anymore, is when something BOMBS.

And the first Harry Potter is not the third highest grossing film of all time. Internationally may be but def not domestic

Worldwide, as in total box office, as in what is really important. Domestic box office by itself is relatively meaningless. The media might care about it, but the studios don't.

The top ten of all time...

1. Titanic $1,835,300,000

2. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King $1,129,219,252

3. Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone $968,600,000

4. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace $922,379,000

5. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers $921,600,000

6. Jurassic Park $919,700,000

7. Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets $866,300,000

8. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring $860,700,000

9. Finding Nemo $853,200,000

10. Independence Day $811,200,000

It was dark, but think about the content - a little bit of fantasy violence, no profanity, no sex. Scary stuff, yeah, but that's the rating to go with. No shame in being a bit freaked out, though. The dementors were handled really well and would have fit well into any sci-fi/horror movie. Great touches with everything getting icy, too. The little kids in the theater I was in were flipping out.

Unless you count Harry's aunt saying "bitch" at the beginning, but she used it in it's proper context.

Not that profanity means much in England anyways. They are about the biggest pottymouths that you will find.

There is some profanity in the books and films, but nothing major. Just light stuff that you will find anywhere (bitch, hell, damn, ass), but it is still technically swearing. Ron tells Draco to go fuck himself at one point too, but it is merely heavily implied. The statement itself didn't make it to print.

I once saw a total gross list that included inflation for old movies, I believe Gone With the Wind was in the top five.

It was #1, by quite a large margin if I remember correctly.

I will often use this when discussing what old movies grossed, because by just measuring box office earnings are not accurate at all. I like the way video games companies do it much better. Going by units sold as opposed to amount made.
