Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Okay, this is a thread for people to let others know that a certan game is disappointing and not worth it. I know I'm late with this, but I just rented DBZ Budokai and well, I'm now wishing I had renting Evolution or whatever it is(I have a Cube). Fights don;t feel mparticularly DBZ ish, although there are moments, and I can't figure out how to charge my ki. If I can't, well, half of DBZ is charging up by God, it SHOULD be in the game! Also, its dubbed only and you get stupid things like "King Kai Fist" instead of "Kaio Ken." Even if that is the translation, they call it a Kaio Ken even in the dub! By the way, I don;t think they even got the usual DBZ dub crew to do this, which makes it worse, as they can at leats be halfway decent at times. The only positive about that is that there isn't "Oh my gosh!" syndrome present. But the controls stink, and the move list is pathetic. There's more depth in the SNES DBZ games. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Let me get this straight--you're surprised a Dragon Ball game was bad? Right, got that. Yeah, pretty much every one of them is, exempt for allegedly the 2nd Legacy of Goku for GBA. Although a friend really digs the 2nd Budokai game (forget what it is called) on PS2. I have to admit it has the look and humor down, at least. I also suggest you avoid: CT Special Forces (GBA) : my gripes are chronicled in an earlier thread. The Van Helsing games--stick to the original Devil May Cry or Castlevania games.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Dont waste money on the GBA classic games like Zelda, Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers because it is only NES games without anything new added. Your better off playing ROMs on a flash card.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Dont waste money on the GBA classic games like Zelda, Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers because it is only NES games without anything new added. Your better off playing ROMs on a flash card. Actually, not only that but some of them were already available on Game Boy or GBA to begin with! Super Mario Bros. was, for instance, although as part of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. The cropped screen made it a lot harder than the original, so maybe this remake would be worth it if you simply have to have SMB on the go. Then of course, there's Super Mario Land 2 and the Warios, so maybe not. Donkey Kong is inferior to the 94 Game Boy release--no cement factory or added stages. Legend of Zelda is still a great game, but you can get this as part of the GC collection, and there's Link's Awakening readily available. Pac Man is available as part of a collection on GBA released by Namco. Plus the Neo Geo Pocket Color already received the definitive portable edition, with full screen and scrolling versions. What others are in the collection? Nintendo released a second series in Japan, including the original Mario Bros (yes, the game that was free in all the Advance titles and Superstar Saga), only for only 2 players instead of 4. Dr. Mario is a free download with the GC preview disc, plus there's an unlockable knock-off of Dr. Mario available in Wario Ware.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Yes, but they are around $80+ depending on what size you get. You can load GBA, NES, and various other ROMs into it. http://www.gameboy-advance.net/index.html

Highland 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 I have DBZ: Hyperdimension, which is much better than that atrocious Ultimate Batte 22 for the PS.

Guest Smues Report post Posted June 8, 2004 The Budokai games are not bad at all. It's too bad I can't merge the two. Two has the better game play and graphics, one has the better story mode, in fact I thought Budokai 1's story mode was just amazing and made the game worthwhile even though the gameplay was lacking (but still better than pretty much any other DBZ fighter). (And yes I admit I am biased because I marked like mad when I beat it and they played an instrumental version of Cha-la Head Cha-la)
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 Not really telling you to avoid a bad game, but maybe save cash: Check out dollar stores. I managed to get several Nuby Dreamcast controllers for a buck each, and they also had some other game accessories, like GBA link cables, lights, some GBC/GBP accessories, Sega NFL 2K... A Kay Bee had a big box going for $4.99 that had a Gamecube controller, carrying case, and RF connector. In general, I usually find 3rd party controllers a better deal, usually because of better configurations, layout, design, feel, and special features. There are some poorly-designed 3rd party controllers out there, though, so try to hold them before you decide to buy them.
Guest George Pompidou Report post Posted June 9, 2004 You can even play videos on Gameboy Advance with a Flash Card, I remember putting the Matrix trailer on it. The quality was quite good!

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 I picked up the 2nd X-Box Exhibition disc, and there's this "demo" of Capcom vs. SNK 2. Thing is, I don't see how it is a "demo" at all. It's basically the whole freakin' game! Arcade, Versus (with 2 players and all), Survival, Color Edit, all the modes of play and grooves, all the characters... Basically, it is only lacking the ability to save (unless it saves directly to the hard drive) and X-Box Live play. I don't know if all of them are like this or maybe it was a boo-boo that happened to be in early copies of the disc. The game is still rough to play with any of the X-Box controllers, though. Anya 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 All of them are like that. It's just the way Capcom made it. Very strange. Can you actually play through arcade and see the endings and stuff?
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 All considered, I'd say not having Live capability takes about 75% of the gameplay enjoyment, so it really is a demo if you look at it that way.

The endings and text quotes are in Japanese, but apparently yeah. I managed to stomp through arcade mode despite the control issues and it went all the way.
