A statement purportedly from al-Qaeda militants in Saudi Arabia has warned of new attacks on US and Western airlines and other transport facilities.

"All compounds, bases and means of transport, especially Western and American airlines, will be a direct target...," it said.

Posted on an pro-al-Qaeda website, it asks Muslims to keep away from Westerners and such locations.

The statement's authenticity could not be immediately verified.

But it was signed "al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula".

It comes as Saudi security forces hunt gunmen who attacked a BBC news team in a drive-by shooting in Riyadh on Sunday.

Cameraman Simon Cumbers was killed and security correspondent Frank Gardner is critically ill in hospital.

The two journalists travelled to Saudi Arabia last week following terror attacks in the city of Khobar.

The United States Government would like to thank you for the warning, even if it is full of crap. Also, airport security would like to thank you for providing them with some great overtime pay.

When these warnings come out, the safest place you can be is the place they threaten to attack ... after all, it's now surrounded by federal agents.

I'm surprised nobody has theorized that industries in competition with airlines --- such as mass transit --- are issuing these proclamations to negatively impact air travel.

I'm surprised that no one has claimed that Southwest Airlines is behind everything considering they're the only airline to consistantly make money.

A couple more years of multi-billion dollar losses for the industry and they'll be one of the only airlines left.

Considering Greyhound's horrible security procedures, it wouldn't surprise me

Well, they certainly aren't going to threaten Amtrak.

1. Almost no one rides trains cross-country anymore

2. They're more likely to crash on their own than probably any other form of mass transportation

I highly doubt that this statement is from Al Queda. It's unusual for them to give a warning prior to any attack.
