Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister on Nazism

Recommended Posts

I came across this and thought I would post it here, in light of the recent controversy with Bradshaw and with HHH's shirt.

ON THE HOLOCAUST :

There are photographs, but anyone can make photographs. You can fake anything. I think half of it's true and half of it isn't.

I say, it was sixty years ago, so get fucking over it. Nobody says anything about the red Indians and there are still government buildings that fly the Confederate flag.

That was just as much a Nazi state as Nazi Germany if you ask me. Cut the balls off of a guy if he tried to run away from the plantation. Remarkably similar to me. The thing with the red Indians is they were poisoned, murdered and slaughtered.

Women and children, just so you could have this country. So I don't think there is any difference really. Except that Americans were more thorough because the Indians are fucking gone and the Jews are still here..

ON HITLER:

He changed the fucking world we live in. I'm interested in anyone, so-called "good" or "bad" who can change the world. Think about it. One man, he changed everything for millions and millions of people - changed the way we look at everything. How can you not be interested in Hitler ? He made the world we live in...

I got to give it to the man, one thing that he did have was unshakable fucking faith. He killed himself rather than fall into the hands of the Russians, which was a pretty good option. They were tying up SS officers and crucifying them on doors and setting them on fire, and gouging their eyes out.

But I mean, I am really not in favor of Hitler.

ON COLLECTING NAZI MEMORABILIA:

My collection's so big I can't even get into my apartment.

How does collecting it make one a Nazi? I've got two black girlfriends so how does that tally? If people collect stuff from the Roman times does that make them Romans? If they collect guns does that make them murderers?

ON THE SWASTIKA THAT WAS ON THEIR ALBUM COVER:

Apparently, SOME people thought it offensive, so we dropped it. It wasn't a big thing anyway - it was in the days when a swastika was just old fashioned & pissed people off. Maybe we should put it back!

Lemmy's one of those guys who just "gets it." There's all kinds of weird fuckers that collect Nazi stuff, doesn't mean they're going to go around killing jews. I can't think of any virulently anti-semitic Motorhead stuff.

It's like nazi skinheads who are way into Slayer. Tom Araya's a minority, though, so it's not really fair to mark someone as a racist like that.

Don't even get me started on racist rappers. Things are the same all over, and Lemmy knows.

After Addy & Thumbtack name-dropped the band Absurd, I did some reading up on them ... who knew that there was such a huge National Socialist Black Metal scene?!? Back when I was a skinhead the metal scene was the enemy, and was hated more than rappers or jocks or preppies. (I was a S.H.A.R.P. but I knew quite a few racist skins, too.). It's weird to think that people are combining the two into one scene.

And I think that most of the MENSA members making up the Nazi metal scene don't realize that Tommy ain't white. They're not the brightest of folks, you know.

Isn't the whole nazi connection with Slayer due to "Angel Of Death"?

to continue the NSBM points...

I am almost completely sure the scenes started merging due to the movement in Norway/Scandinavia starting...probably around '88 when the black metal bands were all death metal kids and Venom/Bathory/Celtic Frost were starting to take hold. They started to adopt the ideologies and beliefs of 'the older gods' or whatever and started to breed a scene with a ton of pride in their country and history. They started to make music that reflected this based on the liberated sounds of the aformentioned pioneers.

The became a small group of groups...an inner circle that began to get a little too into what they were doing. Some branched off into full on NS and NSBM styles while others wore it on their sleeve while making 'straight' music without the message in every word. Some of the members of this glorified high school clique started to burn churches, murder each other blah blah...all heard it before I'm sure.

This scene did probably the single worst thing that music can do (Metal especially), it got the attention of some kids who were drifting and ripe for the picking of influence. This led to Absurd and the murder of a classmate etc etc.

Of course the scene has shifted to North America as people became aware and you end up with Bands out of Michigan(?) called Grand Belial's Key who wear their hatred for the "judeo-christian scourge" like a young kid wears a metal face when buying a hard ass grind cd to look cool to his slightly older friends.

Most of it is total grandstanding because that's what Black Metal is still percieved to be still. Some guys (Varg Vikernes, Absurd, etc) are definitely into it (although the Absurd boys came into it by seeing someone else doing it).

I make no guarantee as to the correctness of these timelines and facts, but they are close at worst.

Back to Lemmy.
