Take this job and shove it....

On the heels of the recent "pay adjustments" the Wal mart brain trust put upon us, and hearing tales of people getting upwards of 1.25 raises just cause they stand behind a counter (Sporting Goods, Electronics etc) as well as getting a $ 0.00 dollar bonus myself, (and being told I should technically be making less than I am) I was p*ssed off. Then to cap it all off they handed out "Good Job Pins" to several employees, just for answering the calls to cashier when were short handed (above and beyond the call of duty my ASS) So with all that coming down, and me getting the proverbial financial CORNHOLE, I wrote this letter to my direct manager, Christine, and gave Store Manager Matt a copy as well.

Read and enjoy :) (Letter Below)

----------

Attention Wal-mart Management,

I was informed recently that several associates received Good Job pins for answering 1908’s. This has prompted me to write this informal grievance today because I feel I have been overlooked for either an elusive Good Job pin or a merit raise.

The facts in support of my cause are:

I have performed a more difficult labor load in Lawn and Garden on a daily basis than many of my coworkers. I am one of only 3 people (Myself, Anton and Chris) working in Lawn and Garden who can physically handle an eight hour shift in which a vast amount of time is spent lifting 20-50 pound bags of dirt, manure, and things of that nature as well as hauling pallets, patio sets and trees around. If the 3 of us are all working I am the one out there regardless 99% of the time.

I am cashier trained, can make keys, catch fish and mix paint. No incentives were added for learning these traits.

I willingly cover in any department or area of the store that needs me, that includes electronics and going outside to push carts, as well as doing customer carry outs.

In the two and a half years of employment here I have called in 2 times total, an average of less than one time per year.

I cleaned out the fixture room over the winter. In the past associates have been rewarded with gift cards and similar things for doing this job. I once again received no extra incentive. Admittedly, however those rewards were inconsistently handed out, and aren’t a standard bonus.

Overall this mounting frustration I feel inside toward this job could have been thwarted had some recognition been given in my direction. Morale is an issue storewide, and management making an effort to make the employees feel empowered and/or that they did a good job would help keep good workers like myself from feeling apathy about their jobs.

Furthermore I have been told by two of my current coworkers that they put me in for a merit raise recently. That vindicates my stance further, since others have obviously noted that I’m putting in an effort toward this job. My old manager overnight (Mark) also spoke of giving me a merit raise in the spring of 2003, but that never came to fruition.

I hope once you read over this letter you’ll agree with my stance and reward me accordingly. Together we can make my final year of working full time here at Wal-mart a pleasurable experience and a rewarding one for management, the customers, and myself. Thank you for your time.

Well if it's your final year there I can hardly see them going out of there way to appease you considering you won't be there in a year.

A Pay increase is a pay increase. Employee Relations should be dealt with positively. Plus they support associates going to college, since its bettering themselves. Christ guys, this ain't bitch about Astro's job, this is bitch about your dickhead of a boss, or ittiot co workers!

Get another job if this one sucks so bad.

Back in high school I was in the same boat your were in -- despite going above and beyone what was expected of me at one fast-food joint, I got the same token pay raise other slackers got. My attitude soured and I went out in a blaze of glory when my head manage got sick of my poor attitude...

Most of these people probably don't have jobs or they're really "happy"

Meh...my job is OK. I just hate some of the snobby Hamptonites.

That's weird that you didn't get a pay raise. I've been with Wal-Mart the same amount of time you have and got $.50. Tho I work in Electronics, which is a lot more (well for my case) then just sitting around a register.

I am, for the most part.

I make my own hours, I'm away from my co-workers, I play on the Internet freely, and I listen to talk radio all day...

Count me amongst that bunch. Actually, my hours are more like 6:30-5, but I'm pretty happy. I'm overpaid, so it's cool. My biggest complaint is getting my ass out of bed so early each day.
