Guest Quik Report post Posted June 15, 2004 That fucking sucked. I guess they don't have much done but still want to get some hype surrounding it.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted June 15, 2004 Personally, I didn't think the character models really looked that good. I don't know if I'll warm up to them, or if it was a bad angle, or if was due to the video quality or whatever. They certainly didn't look "life like" though. I can tell you that much. Also, what the fuck is up with that commentary? Eww.

Commentary in a wrestling video game is sooo freakin' unnecessary, and no game has ever quite done it right, but they keep wasting time trying.
Dangerous K89 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 Yeah, they totally keep wasting time trying when it WASN'T IN THE LAST FUCKING GAME. Yeah. Also, I would ignore that commentary, particularly, as it definitely was just for the video only.
Karnage 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 Its funny how they just cut a piece off of the old scratch logo when they show the Smackdown 1 and 2 game titles.

Also, what the fuck is up with that commentary? Eww. I had problems seeing the video since that damn "Dodgeball" preview clip came on before it and the featured video wouldn't load up (the Windows Media Player said "Closed" after the "Dodgeball" clip stopped), but I have seen a few pics of the Smackdown vs. Raw video game, and it seems like Yukes has dropped the ball on the character models this year (Orton looking as big as HHH, for example). Plus, I haven't read anything about the CAW being improved, either, or if Yukes will take out the unnecessary stat-building feature and just let gamers build stats up without having to go through the Season mode so many times. It's odd how Yukes just keeps getting worse and worse with the graphics along with other things considering that newer games are supposed to be improvements, not declines. Then again, guess which video game developer we're talking about.

I don't know if I'll warm up to them, or if it was a bad angle, or if was due to the video quality or whatever. It's Playstation 2. It's almost five years old. We've already seen the best it can do. Time to move the series to X-Box or a next-gen system. Besides the clipping issues with hair (which in, what, 4 sequels they haven't fixed?!) I don't really have a problem with HCTP's graphics. In fact, I think that's the genuinely best thing about that game. In comparison, I think WMXIX and Raw (can't comment on Raw 2, haven't seen it) look like crap. It's clearly not a hardware limitation to me, although I wish they'd fix that crap with the hair. I know it can be fixed. Yeah, they totally keep wasting time trying when it WASN'T IN THE LAST FUCKING GAME. I don't know if that's supposed to be sarcasm or not, but I was speaking about game companies in general. Commentary in the games have usually been stilted, annoying, repetitive, inappropriate, mis-cued, and often sounding just plain stupid. So even though they almost perfectly captured Michael Cole's commentary style at the time (), that isn't necessarily something I want in my game. While I know I can just turn it off if they do put it in, I'd rather they use the extra time to a) get the game out sooner or b) fix the other problems. It's a lot more difficult to put commentary in a wrestling game than a football, baseball, basketball, etc game, since everything happens so fast and we're used to one of the commentators throwing in wise-ass quips and observations. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 Wrestlemania 19 looks okay other than hair. Some of teh character models leave something to be desired, but the basic engine isn't too bad. The main problem with Wrestlemania 19 is the lack of a true storyline where you're winning a belt instead of beating up cops.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted June 16, 2004 It's almost five years old. We've already seen the best it can do. Time to move the series to X-Box or a next-gen system. Yes, I understand that. I also understand that Here Comes the Pain looked fine, and there's no reason to try to change the models completely with this new upgrade. Especially if it just ends up fucking up how half the characters look. Also, if they move the title to the X-Box, they'll have at least one less customer.... Only The Strong Survive 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 Holy crap. Who the hell was doing commentary in that? It sounded like someone's grandfather. The graphics are on par with HCTP though. Don't know why everyone's saying they're so bad. That was a pretty lame video though.
Silence 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 The graphics are on par with HCTP though. Don't know why everyone's saying they're so bad. It's mainly the character models that I have a problem with. Cena's was OK, but Orton was too big, which makes me think that others in the game like Benoit, Jericho, Eddie, etc. are going to look bigger than they are in real life, and that would be weird to see most wrestlers in the game looking like they're on the HHH nutrition program when they actually aren't. Not that graphics are important, as I would like to see the CAW improved, the stat-building in Season mode taken out, more moves (from the Indies, Japan, etc.), a few re-animations on certain moves, etc., but most of the character models still shouldn't look bulky. I doubt thats going to happen.... aside from a couple of wrestlers, they got pretty much everyone right. As for the stat building, live with it, because its not going anywhere. Myself I prefer it, it gives me a sense of satisfaction when my CAW beats a wrestler much better than him and he gets a suitable reward for it. I don;t think its really unnecessary, though the last game I saw with a CAW you could plug right in and compete was Fire Pro X fr the SNES, which I loved for the sheer insanity of the maneuvers. My major beef with that system was that it placed too much emphasis on precision, which to me took a lot of fun out of the game. Button mashing is just as bad, so as I have said before, there has to be a happy medium someplace.... I think they have reach a plateau with the graphics, now what they need to put in this game are more maneuvers, better and longer storylines, and the little esoteric things, like when you hold more than one title, it needs to be on the splash screen.. some small things that give the player a better sense of accomplishment. Guest JacK Report post Posted June 17, 2004 Better storylines would be good . . . I mean if your going to try and have a season mode, with storylines, you either have to go totally all out and pull out some new stuff rather than totally rehashing old angles; or go the Smackdown 1 route (I loved that season mode . . . add Player Controlled run-ins to that and it'd be even better) with barely any 'storylines' per se. Only The Strong Survive 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 At least Smackdown 1 had "implied storylines" (yes that's my term). For example, if you lost the WWF title to someone, you'd turn up as the special ref in their title defense next month, giving you the chance to screw them out of the title. Of course, one month I faced Road Dogg and Mr. Ass as the Undertaker in a two-on-one, and the next month I took on the Rock in a three-on-one and my partners were Road Dogg and Mr. Ass. The new games aren't perfect either so there's always room for improvement.

Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 That doesn't really imply there will be commentary... There's were also intros like that for HCTP that had an announcer or something saying the name, but there's no commentary in that.
