2004 NBA Draft thread

Vitale seems to forget that two of the top 3 players in the NBA came out of H.S. Well, Kobe/Garnett, in IMO.

As did T-Mac, and of LeBron from last year. Some High Schoolers are just ready...but more often than not they're drafted for potential.

To be honest, unless a High School player absolutely dominated the High School ranks(like Al Jefferson did, averaging over 40ppg) I would always go with a college player.

If Jameer Nelson drops far enough for Ainge to grab and he doesn't...well...lets not say what I'll do

Some are exceptions to the rule, but you are now getting a lot of high school failures.

That's one of the major backfires.

the trick with high school players is you can't draft them if you're stupid, otherwise you'll give up on them before the're any good. The Hawks, for example, should not be taking high school players.

Charlotte has no need for a PG. The chance to grab Jameer Nelson is becoming greater, and greater.

It's not until 2005 can we say how successful the HS to NBA route is...

While you do have success stories like Garnett, Kobe, T-Mac, O Neal...you have other complete and total flops.

I say if by 2005, if the success rate for HS to NBA players is above 45%...then the arguement should effectively be put to rest.

Miami has Dwayne Wade. They don't need a PG either. They need a SF

Team High School:

Kobe Bryant

Tracy McGrady

Kevin Garnett

LeBron James

Jermaine O'Neal

Team College:

Shaquille O'Neal

Tim Duncan

Jason Kidd

Allen Iverson

Paul Pierce

Which lineup would you take? Of course there's probably some other former college players out there that you can mix and match with (Vince Carter, Dwayne Wade, Ben Wallace, Carmelo Anthony).

What is it with these guys?

Nelson is getting screwed...Miami was a good team this year and buy likely picking up Nelson, they add another good player to a very good team.

The Heat are trying like hell to get rid of Eddie Jones, so they may move Wade to the 2.

Dammit Vitale...

I forgot about Butler. In that case they need a Center because Brian Grant sucks. Nobody wants Eddie Jones and his max contract.

I believe TEAM COLLEGE should only include 4 year players...

Which takes Iverson off...and I'm not sure if Shaq and Pierce went a full 4 years but I know Duncan and Kidd went 4 years.

Woohoo, Nuggets have Andre Miller locked up so they don't need Nelson.

If the Celts get Jameer Nelson with 24 and Donta Smith with 25 I'll take back everything negative I've said about Danny Ainge up to this point.

I swear every year there is a really good college player who drops ridicously low...

I'm convinced ESPN and TNT told the teams to do it just for added drama.

I don't think Shaq went for four years, and this screws up their team entirely. Team High School would probably have the better team.

I'm just hoping that Jameer will drop low enough so the Spurs can get him.

Spurs have Tony Parker locked up for years. You guys need a big Center to compliment Duncan.

WTF is Denver thinking? They have more pressing needs. Andre Miller is too small to play SG. Denver fucks up and costs the Celts a good PG

Steve Nash
