Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Vitale seems to forget that two of the top 3 players in the NBA came out of H.S. Well, Kobe/Garnett, in IMO. As did T-Mac, and of LeBron from last year. Some High Schoolers are just ready...but more often than not they're drafted for potential. To be honest, unless a High School player absolutely dominated the High School ranks(like Al Jefferson did, averaging over 40ppg) I would always go with a college player. If Jameer Nelson drops far enough for Ainge to grab and he doesn't...well...lets not say what I'll do
razazteca Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Jermaine O'Neal took 5 years to be an All Star caliber player.
2GOLD Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Some are exceptions to the rule, but you are now getting a lot of high school failures. That's one of the major backfires.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 the trick with high school players is you can't draft them if you're stupid, otherwise you'll give up on them before the're any good. The Hawks, for example, should not be taking high school players.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Charlotte has no need for a PG. The chance to grab Jameer Nelson is becoming greater, and greater.
therealworldschampion Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Jameer Nelson is probably going to Miami at #19.
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 It's not until 2005 can we say how successful the HS to NBA route is... While you do have success stories like Garnett, Kobe, T-Mac, O Neal...you have other complete and total flops. I say if by 2005, if the success rate for HS to NBA players is above 45%...then the arguement should effectively be put to rest.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Miami has Dwayne Wade. They don't need a PG either. They need a SF
razazteca Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 The Heat do not need another point guard do they?
Brett Favre Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Team High School: Kobe Bryant Tracy McGrady Kevin Garnett LeBron James Jermaine O'Neal Team College: Shaquille O'Neal Tim Duncan Jason Kidd Allen Iverson Paul Pierce Which lineup would you take? Of course there's probably some other former college players out there that you can mix and match with (Vince Carter, Dwayne Wade, Ben Wallace, Carmelo Anthony).
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 What is it with these guys? Nelson is getting screwed...Miami was a good team this year and buy likely picking up Nelson, they add another good player to a very good team.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 The Heat are trying like hell to get rid of Eddie Jones, so they may move Wade to the 2. Dammit Vitale...
razazteca Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Miami has Dwayne Wade. They don't need a PG either. They need a SF but isnt Caron Butler and Lamar Smith Small Forwards?
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I forgot about Butler. In that case they need a Center because Brian Grant sucks. Nobody wants Eddie Jones and his max contract.
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Team High School: Kobe Bryant Tracy McGrady Kevin Garnett LeBron James Jermaine O'Neal Team College: Shaquille O'Neal Tim Duncan Jason Kidd Allen Iverson Paul Pierce Which lineup would you take? Of course there's probably some other former college players out there that you can mix and match with (Vince Carter, Dwayne Wade, Ben Wallace, Carmelo Anthony). I believe TEAM COLLEGE should only include 4 year players... Which takes Iverson off...and I'm not sure if Shaq and Pierce went a full 4 years but I know Duncan and Kidd went 4 years.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Woohoo, Nuggets have Andre Miller locked up so they don't need Nelson.
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 That kid has complete flop written all over him.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 If the Celts get Jameer Nelson with 24 and Donta Smith with 25 I'll take back everything negative I've said about Danny Ainge up to this point.
razazteca Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I'm just hoping that Jameer will drop low enough so the Spurs can get him.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 at least the other high school guys I've heard of. Who the hell is Dorell Wright?
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I swear every year there is a really good college player who drops ridicously low... I'm convinced ESPN and TNT told the teams to do it just for added drama.
I believe TEAM COLLEGE should only include 4 year players... Which takes Iverson off...and I'm not sure if Shaq and Pierce went a full 4 years but I know Duncan and Kidd went 4 years. I don't think Shaq went for four years, and this screws up their team entirely. Team High School would probably have the better team.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I don't know why the announcers sound so shocked. Every draft, in every sport, there is a highly ranked player who free falls down the draft lists.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I'm just hoping that Jameer will drop low enough so the Spurs can get him. Spurs have Tony Parker locked up for years. You guys need a big Center to compliment Duncan.
Guest Choken One Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 If there is a TEAM HIGH SCHOOL and TEAM COLLEGE What's Team International?
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 WTF is Denver thinking? They have more pressing needs. Andre Miller is too small to play SG. Denver fucks up and costs the Celts a good PG
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 WTF is Denver thinking? They have more pressing needs. Andre Miller is too small to play SG. Denver fucks up and costs the Celts a good PG Maybe just doing the BPA strategy.
Brett Favre Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 If there is a TEAM HIGH SCHOOL and TEAM COLLEGE What's Team International? Steve Nash Peja Stojakovic Paul Gasol Dirk Nowitizki Andre Kirilenko Off the top of my head.
