ROH has lost a ton of money...

Recommended Posts

From the DVD boards:

"In this week's observer it says they've lost nearly a half a million since opening up doors, which puts them in the red big. I always thought these guys were "breaking even on video sales" and now this comes out. Pretty wild that they were able to keep this big of a loss quiet for so long. That's big money to lose for an independent wrestling company."

I'd also say booking some of the biggest indy stars in North America, as well as routinely bringing in international talent, has hurt them, too. And let's not even get into dwindling tape sales and live attendance from the RF scandal.

What big international stars has ROH really used?

1. Ikuto

2. Tanaka

3. E.Guerrero

4. Super Crazy

... thats about it.

I think the whole thing that set them back is the split with RFVideo. RFVideo completly financed ROH. Cutting off all of those sales, I beleive is what sets them back.

It also sounds like this estimation is just that, an estimation, and probably isn't that big of a loss as is reported.

EDIT: Yea, kinda forgot about Final Battle '03. But, that has been there best attendence [some 1,600] some. Plus then you figure in they had two shows that day, plus they got a shoot out of Kaz and Muta, which I imagine sold pretty nicely.

They probably broke even on the FB show. Also, considering that Muta and Kaz were doing a tour of the states, they didn't have to pay for their flight.

Well Muta and Kojima and all the other guys on FB2003 too.

Yea, I just edited it. Forgot about that. I posted, saw your post [which wasn't there when I began writing my post], and then edited mine. Bah.

uh oh. This is bad. Maybe now that they've split they'll start cutting down on some things...

From how ROH made it sound, Jeff asked THEM to wrestle on their show. So I assumed he was either free, or rather cheap.

ROH was losing money before the whole "RF" thing. What do you think - they lost $500,000 in the last 3 months?

ROH might be better than TNA in work rate, but for everyone on this board (and it's a lot of people) who have said that TNA sucks because they lose money and ROH is better because of their great business model - well, not any more.

AmDrag can barely be considered a international star, since he was a US indy first and foremost, and is based out of the States.

Storm was used what, twice? Same with Fleisch.

Williams has been used like 3 times, and is going to be used like 3 or 4 times in the upcoming months.

I guess Nigel could be seen that way as well, but I doubt he's very expensive.

Nigel I believe lives and operates out of the US.

Meltz also mentioned in the Observer this week that Zero-One has banned all of it's workers from working RoH due to RF's illegal bootlegging.

It's also mentioned that Silken became the majority owner because that was the only way he was going to bail RoH out so that they could make payroll earlier this year.

I guess the main advantage they had over TNA was all a lie.

and yet the promotion AmDrag is the most prominent in besides RoH is.... New Japan.

I'm sure I read that the ban was put in place a few months ago, and that it had recently been announced to of been lifted. I seem to remember over at the ROH boards there was thread everyone drooling over this news, as they believed it meant that people like Corino and Low Ki would come back, even though they stopped working ROH before the ban was put in place.

and the fact that Corino hates a few guys in RoH (not naming anyone) and Low Ki has terrible heat with the management.

They announced at the ROH show that the server would be down for a week or two as they switch servers, who knows.

Oh. I thought it had something to do with the breaking news about ROH's uncovered money loss.

Thanks for clearing that up for me actually, I was wondering why it was down.

It might for all I know, I'm just stating what they said.

I don't know, either. I remembered the forums going down after the RF incident and that's what made me think of the money loss being the possible cause of the ROH website being down. We really don't know yet.

BTW, in case you were wondering, I don't post as the Raven Effect on the ROH forums since I'm actually not a member of the ROH forums. I just had to clear something up.

The Observer said that that the ban will probably be lifted when RoH splits and if they get sole rights to sell the tapes. But even if the ban goes away Corino and Low Ki probably won't appear in RoH again. So it'd just be to get Spanky back.

Im thinking this loss is way overstated, givin the amount of people ROH draws and the number of tapes they sell i dont see it happening

and it is very unlikly that they lost 500 since the RF thing broke

If the company was in such a cash failure then why would RF be driving a Lexus and there be new belts and such

I think its just anther rumor RF has started
