Guest MikeSC Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 The Justice Dept has opened an anti-trust inquiry into ESPN. They are apparently investigating ESPN's practice of televising a small portion of a conference's football and basketball games and then preventing them from making individual deals with any other TV entities. -=Mike
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Not that I'm defending ESPN, because as a network they suck, but who else is going to play college games? NBC only plays Notre Dame games despite them not doing squat in the last decade. Fox Sports gets local stuff. CBS gets a fair amount of football and basketball as well. Don't see what the problem is here.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I never saw ESPN as a monopoly ever... ever...

If there is a problem --- they're only investigating --- it's that nobody else CAN do much due to the ESPN deals. -=Mike ...A kid asked me if is it OK for mediocre networks to be monopolies...
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 At least it's nice to know that Disney is teaching ESPN cutthroad business practices...
Styles Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 There's plenty of room for all the games on ESPN 8, THE OCHO~!
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 ESPN should hand the NBA over to UPN and make Larry Bird the guy in the commercials that tells you when the game is on. I mean think about it. The Parkers at 8pm Girlfriends at 8:30pm Portland TrailBlazers take on the LA Clippers at 9pm
