The Justice Dept has opened an anti-trust inquiry into ESPN. They are apparently investigating ESPN's practice of televising a small portion of a conference's football and basketball games and then preventing them from making individual deals with any other TV entities.

Not that I'm defending ESPN, because as a network they suck, but who else is going to play college games? NBC only plays Notre Dame games despite them not doing squat in the last decade. Fox Sports gets local stuff. CBS gets a fair amount of football and basketball as well.

Don't see what the problem is here.

If there is a problem --- they're only investigating --- it's that nobody else CAN do much due to the ESPN deals.

ESPN should hand the NBA over to UPN and make Larry Bird the guy in the commercials that tells you when the game is on. I mean think about it.
