Tony149 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Last night I decide to upgrade my AOL software, everything goes fine...or so I thought. Everytime I sign on I'm told "The attempt to connect to AOL service timed out." It mentions something about an active firewall possibly restricting the software and to configure the settings. I consider myself computer illiterate -- and after 3 years using Web/MSN TV, this has me confused -- but I check the firewall settings and I'm still not quite sure what I'm supposed to do. Any help would be very appreciated.
Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Quick answer is to get rid of AOL... Seriously though, are you connecting via dialup, AOL Highspeed etc?
Tony149 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 (edited) Seriously though, are you connecting via dialup, AOL Highspeed etc? Dialup. Aol 8.0 works fine, except I get the occassion "aolwbspd.exe is attempting to access Internet." I keep getting different .exe on 9.0 saying to add it manually if it's not listed. DokDoyle 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 It sounds like you have a firewall of some sort on the PC. Look around your add/remove programs, seee if there's anthing like Zonealarm, Norton internet security, anything like that. It may just be as simple as adding AOL 9.0 to the programs allowed to access the net.

I ran the Program Scan feature and 9.0 popped up, so I thought that's it, problem fixed. I sign on only to get another message saying AOLacad.exe is attempting to access net, then asks to Permit, Block or Manually Configured Internet Access.
