eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Land of the Dead Two years have passed since Day of the Dead, and there are only a few humans left on Earth. The zombies are no longer a threat, because of their advanced state of decomposition, they're only anoying. There's also subplot where the human race thinks they found a cure for the zombie disease. LATEST NEWS Romero says that LAND OF THE DEAD (formerly DEAD RECKONING) has a big-name producer behind it. “I can’t say who it is yet, but it’s a major deal,” the filmmaker says. “I hope they leave us alone and don’t want to ‘Hollywood-ize’ it too much, or spend too much money, but those are battles yet to be fought.” Romero does acknowledge, however, that there’s a very good chance that the initial release version of LAND OF THE DEAD will not have the same freedoms as his original, unrated DAWN OF THE DEAD and DAY OF THE DEAD. “The producers want major distribution, so I’m sure that the first release version, in this country anyway, will have to be R-rated. I don’t think they’ll want to go NC-17. But they’re gonna let me shoot the film the way I want to, and they’ll let me do the cutbacks for release. Hopefully the fans will still show up, and then see the [unrated] edition later on video.” The director hopes to begin production on LAND OF THE DEAD in October, with KNB already bidding on the FX work, and Romero says the project is “definitely moving full speed ahead.” http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2523 i can't beleive it's finally getting made. I'm definitly looking forward to the Unrated version on DVD

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I trust that Romero will have a kickass DVD waiting for us, after we have to settle for the R-rated version in the theater.....I am so there.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I'm glad Romero came to his senses aboot insisting on it being nc-17 theatrically. That would've been suicide for a movie that could do well at the box office. There's also no reason to do it in the dvd age.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Any idea what kind of distribution we're talking? Semi-nationwide?
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 After a re-visioning of one of his movies did great at the box office, whatever studio is distributing this would be NUTS to not do it full-on nationally. Dawn '04 was the first movie to upset Passion from the #1 spot, right? They'd be fools to not have Land go all over, and pimp the fucking hell out of it. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Well I wonder what happens to the people that are CURRENTLY DYING. I mean has the rising of the dead ceased and they only have to deal with the rotting corpses, because I dunno exact figures, but I would venture to say that A LOT of people die in the world on a daily basis, and just one bite/scratch will infect you. So I wonder if there will be the usual, "no worries, problem contained slowly turns intoOh No they are all over the place, we're all gonna die" scenario.... Also, there is that New Day of the Dead movie coming out that I posted the offcial site for a day or so ago....looks decent.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 14, 2004 HELLS YEAH MOTHERFUCKER!!!! Sorry, you guys should know about the Romero love from my part by now. This should be kick ass as when I met George at the Pittsburgh Comicon he did have lots to say about the film and what he would like to do with it. He did seem confident that he would be able to make HIS version of the script though.....so that's refreshing. I am very curious to see how this develops.....and I agree Laz, this series of films has a hell of a cult following and it would be uber foolish to not take advantage of it. eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 oh and by the way, the big studio behind the movie is most likely Fox, it has been rumored for some time. And the movie aparently begins shooting around October.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 You know, the "zombies dying" aspect seems almost like 28 Days Later. As in by the end the zombies were all rotting away and weren't a threat. I'll be there though, it should be cool.

I'll be there though, it should be cool. the difference though is that in 28 days later it was just regular people infected with a virus, however in the Dead series it is actual DEAD PEOPLE coming back to life, that is why I am wondering if for the new sequel, it will be revealed that the dead have stopped coming back to life, and they just have to deal with the rotting corpses that are still left, because you'd think with the amount of people who die everyday, there would be plenty of fresh new zombies resurfacing everyday. I'm sure there's ways you could get around that. When someone dies you could cut their brain out or decapitate the body. Or simply just burn the body. It's hard to say, the angle could be that if the person dies from natural causes and not from the infection then the body doesn't rise. Course I've never been a big fan of that angle but I bet that is the one they go with. Plus I doubt many people are even still alive anymore so they probably all know by now to dispose of the deceased properly to avoid their rising.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Going by the NotLD plot, if the radiation that created the zombies in the first place was still active (and I'm assuming it would have to be or they wouldn't be walking around at all), the original zombies would have to be regular people who died of various causes--some natural, some murder, etc, since none of the originals would have been killed by zombies, they were just recent dead. So I assume dying of natural causes would indeed make new zombies. However, by that time people who are familiar with what they have to do will calmly, coldly sigh "Grandma's passed on...hand me the shotgun."
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Yeah. If I remember correctly, when Land of the Dead was still being talked about as Dead Reckoning, the whole purpose of the movie was that there were societies built in shopping centers and apartment buildings with all classes, and people just sorta "dealt" with the zombies outside the safe zones. Basically, a commentary on how people eventually just ignore the problem rather than solve it.

So it should make the plot and theme even MORE interesting.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 30, 2004 I just wanted to bump the thread to add some news. Apparently all efforts to actually film this in the City of Pittsburgh have been exhausted. They will now be filiming in Canada so that they can afford all the production costs. The City of Pittsburgh apparently couldn't give the tax breaks that they were trying to set up for Romero to make the film in the city. It hasn't been confirmed yet, WHERE in Canada it will be filmed though.
