Guest slacklet Report post Posted July 15, 2004 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383588/ Twenty years after the original series left Dr. Sam Beckett "leaping" into the great unknown, Sam is finally reunited with Al, his old mentor and "partner in time." But when circumstances beyond their control send Sam away once more, Al must recruit his lost friend's daughter to pick up where her father left off and hopefully help find Sam again in the process. Bakula better sign on for this.

Mole 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Eh, I was never a fan of Quantium Leap, but if the movie looks good I'll give it a shot.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 The series kinda ended on a sour note, because Sam accepted his fate and just kept "leaping" as he was needed--but it is as if they forgot the episode where he went home and his wife promised to wait for him until he had finished what he needed to do... So apparently they're actually going to resolve that.

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 That's awesome. I never stuck with the show for any long stretches but it's always enjoyable when i do get to see it. So it basically ended with Sam never really getting back home?
Kaertos 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 I hate to be the one to cast a shadow on this thread, but as much as I would like to see a QL movie, if the only source on this is an entry on the notoriously unreliable IMDB, I'll have to call "shenanigans". JasonX 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 That's awesome. I never stuck with the show for any long stretches but it's always enjoyable when i do get to see it. So it basically ended with Sam never really getting back home? In short, yes. The actually finale is one of the most controversial endings ever for a sci-fi show with Sam meeting a figure who claims to be God, which causes the entire basis of the show being totally turned on it's head towards the true nature of why Sam was leaping back and forth and who was actually deciding the specifics of Sam's leaps. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Whoa. I may have to investigate that further. That sounds really interesting.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 If I remember right, it was more NBC's fault than anything. Since the last episode WASN'T suppose to be the last episode. But NBC pulled the plug on the show during what was supposed to be a cliffhanger ending. The God like figure asks Sam what he wants, Sam says "I want to go home..but there is something I have to do first." Sam leaps into someone, convinces Al's wife to wait for him instead of moving on and Sam leaps again. The show ended simply with a picture of Sam and Al with the line, IIRC "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home..." And that was it. It was actually very very depressing when you could the "God" figure basically turns his back on Sam.
Guest slacklet Report post Posted July 15, 2004 After doing some searching, I came up with a few more tidbits about the movie: It will air on the Sci-Fi Channel. Scott Bakula will have *at the very least* a cameo. The lead role will be Sam's daughter who has worked on the leap project not knowing that Sam is her father. Suposedly if this movie does well, it will be spun-off into a new series with Sam's daughter as the main character.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Yeah, and boo I say. I'd rather they just do one big tv movie and bring Sam home. Give the series the ending it deserves and don't re-hash it with a female lead.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Hm. While I like the idea of Sam understanding that his life has had that purpose and that he was chosen to do it by god, I do want to see him get home. That is kind of depressing.
Astro101 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 You know I just got into Quantum leap after seeing it at 1am on Sci-Fi last week. Too bad it's so late and I don't have a VCR in my room...keep waking up at noon.
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 It's already rated a 9.7! It must be good. You know I just got into Quantum leap after seeing it at 1am on Sci-Fi last week. Too bad it's so late and I don't have a VCR in my room...keep waking up at noon. Which episode was that? If you guys like Quantum Leap at all, you have to find the pilot episode, Genesis. Buy it, or download it, I don't think sci-fi shows it in it's entirety. But it's one of the best episodes. Awesome start to the series if you're just getting it to it. Astro101 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Well the first one I saw was where he was a black dude driving "Ms. Daisy" in the 50s. I've been watching it every night, plus that mini marathon last Friday from 9-2pm or somewhere around that time.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 (edited) I had heard rumors a few weeks ago that the goal was to make this a series, but they wanted Bakula to essentially be the Al to the daughter's Sam and couldn't because of Bakula's Enterprise commitments. I have no idea how true that rumor is though. I actually wasn't too upset with the series finale, but it deserved a legit finale. And it's just $40.

It was actually very very depressing when you could the "God" figure basically turns his back on Sam. But he didn't turn his back on Sam. He let Sam utilize free will. He gave Sam the choice --- and Sam CHOSE to not go home so that he could help Al (He "wanted" to go home, but he had something he had to do first --- thus, he made a choice). I, personally, thought the ending was really quite good (I was shocked that the only person who was in the show in the past whose earlier character wasn't referenced was the bartender/God --- who was in the pilot, if memory serves). Sometimes, an ending isn't that sad. He gave up himself to help Al. Remember, he doesn't even know he has a wife while he's leaping to and fro. Heck, it was the best ep of the last season, I felt (him as Lee Harvey Oswald just didn't work for me). But, if they can find a way to get Sam back home and make sense, I'd totally be for it. -=Mike
