C Dubya 04 Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 So, I heard "Float On" and really dug it. It has kind of a late Pixies feel to me. If I like this song, will I enjoy the rest of their cd?
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 Yes. It's definitely top-3 of what's on there, but the album is very good and the single is pretty reflective of it as a whole, in both sound and lyrics. If you like that, check out their back catalogue as well. Excellent albums all over, though everything but the new one can be a bit overwhelming at times. The Lonesome Crowded West is my favorite. Song recommendations across their career: "Gravity Rides Everything," "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine," "Dramamine," "Tundra/Desert," "Polar Opposites," and "Never-Ending Math Equation."
C Dubya 04 Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Ah cool thanks. I saw the new album for 10 bucks last night and will probably check it out.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 This band is better without all the polish, I think.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Also, if you want the most plaintive song these guys have ever pulled together, it's "Make Everyone Happy/Mechanical Birds," straight off their first album. Superb.
Narcoleptic Jumper Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 isaac brock and modest mouse have perfected the melody.
Jorge Gorgeous Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 I'm down with the polished sound, I think some of their older songs lost something in how rough they were. A majority of their older stuff fit in well with the rough sound, but some of it could have used the production on the new CD. If you want a reaaaaal good Modest Mouse song listen to The Fruit That Ate Itself, its my personal favorite.
