Hoff 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Short form: Good show this week, but short. Started off hot, I liked the ongoing segment with Drek and Cappa. It was cool that Cappa showed no fear of Drek. HITC should be awesome. The Sly/RAS/Rick promos all blended together neatly. They were all strong promos, and it made a cool segment, so to speak. Dama/Mask was a good little match. I'm wondering where they go next, but I'm sure we'll find out in due time. SJ's segment was mysterious, and posed a lot of questions. Alix and Candie's segment had me laughing, I was surprised how quickly the crush was exposed, but it was a good segment for sure. Hell's Hitmen are t3h ki113r5. Good squash. I liked their promo after, too, and I'm getting more into their characters week by week. I like that Sly's frustrations started to get the better of him in his match with Phoenix. Good match. Calvin was one step ahead, and that just adds more fuel to Sly's fire. Good main, Zack made himself and Alix look good. I was expecting more to happen at the end, actually, but that's not so much a critique as an observation. Def. my favorite match of the night. Good show overall, nothing mind-blowing but very solid. FEEDBACK PLZ~!
NYU 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I'm finally back for HeldDown feedback. This week, I'm going to try out a new format. Let's see how it goes. Matches 1) Skull Mask vs. Damaramu - Nice, little match. Personally, I think the blowoff match between these two guys should be saved for a PPV, especially since they had such a long partnership together. I liked the back-and-forth nature of the match, and I definitely understand the disqualification ending. The beatdown afterwards was pretty good as well, and it's great to see that Ryan Smith's mean streak is continuing as the weeks go on. Good stuff. 2) Jingus & The Sadist vs. The Love Doctors - Definitely a fun jobber match. The cowardly actions of the Doctors were very entertaining (The optimal heart rate, the stethoscope), and the match as a whole did a lot to put over the monster images of Hell's Hitmen. The short promo afterwards was also very well done! 3) Sly Sommers vs. Phoenix - Very good match between these two. I really liked the back-and-forth nature of the contest, and the story at the beginning with Sly's increasing aggression was told nicely. I loved the post-match antics as well. Calvin trying to rip open Sly's forehead with a pair of scissors is definitely hardcore, and just the right kind of buildup the "Emperor of Death" tournament needs! 4) Zack Malibu vs. Alix - Great match! I loved the beginning promo cut by Zack, and his cocky taunting of Crystal, Northstar, and Alix has only continued to further cement him as one of the biggest assholes in the OAOAST. The match itself was well done, with Alix coming so close to defeating Zack but still happening to lose cleanly. I was also a little surprised to see that nothing else happened following the match, but I guess it was a nice change of pace to leave the drama behind for once. Again, really good Main Event. Segments 1) Sly/Rave & Assault/Rick Promos - I loved the intersections between these three interviews. Very original. First off, the Sly promo was short, but good, as it did a good job of putting over his intense hatred towards Calvin. Second, I continue to like the cocky attitudes of the Rave & Assault squad. It was a nice touch to see how arrogant they were before the Rick segment, but then completely offended afterwards. The "Parental Indiscretion" match looks like it could really be something excellent. Finally, I loved that segment between Rick Edwards and J. Arthur. The confrontation was just so intense, and I like how Rick is becoming more and more of a decent human being with every passing week. Truthfully, these segments are continually becoming one of the highlights of HeldDown for me. Great trio of promos here. 2) Good mysterious segment with Popick. I'm not sure where the gimmick with the number 5 is going, but I'm interested in seeing anyway. 3) Really entertaining backstage promo between Candie and Alix. The comic book revelation was actually very funny, and I liked the growing tension between Candie and Alix leading into the Zack/Alix match later on. 4) The Hoff segment was just awesome. The stuff with Igor really had me laughing, and I marked out pretty nicely for the Mario Brothers. While the promo obviously drew some similarities from the Eugene situation, it still managed to maintain its own original identity, which made it all the more better. I know, a few weeks ago, Hoff was wondering whether he should continue his wrestler as an obnoxious jerk or as a vicious asshole. I think tonight did a great job of putting him over as both! The return of Gunner afterwards was GREAT as well. Again, just an awesome job. Very good show for everybody tonight. And, as always, comments on the Drek Stone/Mad Cappa segments tonight would be GREATLY appreciated. HELL-IN-THE-CELL?! *gasp*! SHOCKING!!!
Hoff 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Comments, eh... Not so much something about tonight, but something I've noticed all along, is that as the matches between Drek and Cappa get more violent, so does the conflict between them. Which is to say, there's a legitimate feel of not just animosity, but a building and growing animosity between the two (and this is where the WWE so often fails, BTW). There's a very human quality in the way that Drek and Cappa antagonize and provoke one another that's refreshing to see on a "scripted" show. Good times. By the way, a. thanks for the props, and b. I like the new format.
NYU 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Thanks for the extra comments, man. Looks like we're pretty lonely in the Feedback thread this week so far.....
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 (edited) I liked the show this week. Pretty tough to follow up last week match-wise, but I think Sly/Zack (or whoever wrote the last two matches) did a fine job. I *loved* the Cappa/Drek segments. At frist, I thought it was the whole "arrest the face" shtick, and kinda rolled my eyes. But I kept with it, 'cause this is the OAOAST, and tired cliches don't usually happen. Very good twist on an old angle. Everything else was pretty entertaining. I liked the string of Sly/RAS/Rick segments. Hey, someone finally comments on being cut away! Awesome. BTW, sorry for the lack of Crystal material. I got confused, and had my lines crossed and only found out about the misunderstanding yesterday. IT's alright though, cause I give ya double the Crystal next week! Edited July 16, 2004 by CanadianChick
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Good show, a little down from last week but thats not surprising. All the matches were solid and the build to the PPV was right on. I think LTP is going to set a new standard for the amount of blood on an OAOAST show, with the tournament, Hell in a Cell etc. Sorry I'm not being more detailed but I'm out of here....*now*
Patty O'Green 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Nice show. Short. But Nice. Short. But easy to post. I don't have anything else to add except for that I liked the way the Sly/RAS/JAE promos all ran together. Nice segments by NYU. I hope the effect of the hell in the cell doesn't get lessened due to massive amount of violence we'll be seeing at LTP. As for nothing happening after the end of the main event match, Zack had proposed having Northstar running in to make the save for Alix but I vetoed it because I don't have the time or the energy to write both Northstar and Chicks Over Dicks. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I'm guessing that the Hell in a Cell will be on the second night since a HiaC wouldn't fit in a cell block.
