Guest CronoT Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 First off, I'm sorry if someone already posted this. I checked, but I didn't see anything about it. Now that that's been said... It seems the screen writers and production staff have fucked up this movie as well, and from the word go. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/...ooncitynews.pdf The link is a .pdf file, so make sure you have Acrobat Reader. If you don't, you should be able to download the shareware beta version so you can view it. The spoiler will follow now: In the new Resident Evil movie, Apocalypse, Leon Kennedy is dead. During yesterday’s press conference, Captain Hendersen noted that Officer Valentine had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the recent death of her partner, Leon Kennedy. That's taken directly from the linked .pdf file. The creator and producers of the Biohazard/Resident Evil series must be shitting their pants right now over this. The movie side of Sony has just taken one of the main characters of the series, and the star of the next RE installment, RE4, and killed him. This is why you don't let movie people makes movies of video games by themselves. They always fuck it up.
Mole Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 Can't they just bring them back from the dead or something?
Guest CronoT Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 Can't they just bring them back from the dead or something? I guess that would make sense to most of the Hollywood types. Most of them are blood-sucking vampires already.
Mole Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 I don't play any of the games anymore. The last one I played was RE2, so I don't really know any of the stories. What role did he play?
DangerousDamon Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 I don't play any of the games anymore. The last one I played was RE2, so I don't really know any of the stories. What role did he play? He was a rookie cop in RE 2. He and several others set out to bring down Umbrella or some such shit. In RE 4 he goes to some town to find a girl, but everyone in the town is crazy.
DangerousDamon Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 http://lirial.20m.com/Leon.html you can find more about Leon there.
Anya Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 I really don't see why Capcom would be freaking out over a living character being dead in the movie version of the story. The movies are not canon in the games' mythos, so what's the big deal? It's not like this has any effect on RE4 or any other game. From the looks of it they just mentioned his name as kind of a reference or wink to the fans. I find that to be a pretty cool touch. It's not any different than Shang Tsung dying in the Mortal Kombat movie. That's not part of the game but the movie was successful and loved anyway.

Yes, it's an attempt to get the fans of the game's attention. It's an attempt to piss them off. A lot of people who were hardcore fans of the game series called the first movie utter crap. So, Sony/Screen Gems is trying to piss them off now. It would be like making a movie out of Final Fantasy III/VI, and having Terra die five minutes into the film. It's my opinion that if you're going to do something, you should do it right. Also, "poetic license" is no excuse for fucking with someone else's work. It's just rude.

I'm a hardcore fan of this series, have been since it first came out, and even I know there's a difference between the games and the movies. I could care less if Leon is dead in the movies. You're just searching for reasons to gripe. And as for the "fucking with someone else's work" point, well, Capcom sold the rights for the movies, so I really have to wonder if they care that much anyways.
2GOLD Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 The only thing really bad was that running down the building crap. God that looked HORRIBLE. This movie looks like it has potential to be the worse sequel ever, actually topping the MK sequel.
Jingus Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 How is this any worse than the shit that made up the first film? It had NOTHING to do with any of the various game plots, invented a whole new set of characters and ignored the ones Capcom had already created, changed the rules about how the monsters worked, and in general just told gamers to go fuck themselves. A relatively minor character like Leon being dead (and he was never Jill's partner in the games, either) won't change a thing.

In a way it is like Anya, a major character in Buffy, not being in Chaos Bleed. She wasn't in the game that much, and you didn't like that.
chaosrage Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 If Leon dies in RE:A, who is the main character? Claire? I never liked Leon too much anyway.
