The Bank Shot: TNA News and Views

Welcome back to another edition of the Bank Shot, back after a short absence. I usually try to write weekly, but with the addition of Impact, everyone in TNA has been working extremely hard. As we head into Wednesday’s loaded TNA Pay-Per-View broadcast, there’s so much to talk about….

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANOTHER TNA INNOVATION

Judging by the reaction on the internet, this Wednesday’s Pay-Per-View is one of the most anticipated in some time. In addition to the return of Jeff Hardy and an update on his future in wrestling, TNA will once again make wrestling history when we debut the first-ever Six Sided Cage Match with Tag Team Champions The Naturals vs. America’s Most Wanted.

It was a little over a year ago that Chris Harris and James Storm made history in TNA’s first cage match, winning back the tag team gold from Triple X in a 2003 Match Of The Year candidate. Now, they’ll have the chance to try and top it this Wednesday night. I can guarantee you that since the match was announced, AWM and The Naturals have been thinking 24/7 about the bout. Something tells me they’re going to deliver big time.

It’s interesting to note that Daniels and Skipper will also be on hand at the Asylum and will without a doubt be watching it. I wonder what will be going through their minds?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TNA DVD AND WEBSITE UPDATES

Lots of news on the TNA DVD and website front. First off, if you pre-ordered the upcoming “Phenomenal: Best of AJ Styles” DVD, we’ll be shipping soon (first come first served) as the final DVD is currently being printed/duplicated as I type this.

Up next on the DVD front is “The Best of America’s Most Wanted” which begins production this week with filming of the standups with Mike Tenay and Don West as well as an interview with Chris Harris and James Storm that will be included on the DVD. You should be able to pre-order the AMW DVD hopefully by next week here on the TNAwrestling.com website.

Upcoming titles for 3Live Kru, Raven and others will be released by the end of 2004.

In other great news, TNA is in the process of finalizing a deal for national distribution of our line of TNA DVDs in many top retail outlets. We hope to have something official to release on the site in the upcoming weeks.

On the website front, I hope you’ve enjoyed the new AJ Styles and TNA Knockouts “Superstar Sites” that we’ve introduced to the website. TNA website designers Lee South and Scott Blair are already in the process of putting together the next Superstar Site dedicated to Raven.

On other note…you’ll soon see the official music themes of the TNA Superstar popping up in their online bios in the Superstar Area.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ONE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, ANOTHER COMING…

TNA made one big announcement this week with the debut of our Pay-Per-Views on ESPN Classic Canada. This is a great opportunity for our fans in Canada to relive some of their favorite moments from TNA from the very beginning of the promotion.

I understand from TNA management that another big announcement is set for early this week regarding our weekly Pay-Per-View that will allow new fans to experience TNA Wrestling. Check back to TNAwrestling.com on Monday and Tuesday for updates.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OLYMPIC TEAM ON IMPACT

TNA is happy to announce that prior to representing our country at the 2004 Olympic Games, the United States Wrestling Team will be in attendance at the Impact tapings this Thursday at Universal Orlando Resort, airing Friday on Fox Sports Net. Among those in attendance will be Gold Medal favorite Daniel Cormier, who is an amateur wrestling champion from Oklahoma State University, as well as Joe Williams, who was voted the 2002 Freestyle Wrestler of the Year and claimed many NCAA Division I wrestling titles at the University of Iowa.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TNA INJURY UPDATES

After Wednesday’s TNA broadcast, there are some injuries to report from the locker room. In addition to his knee, AJ Styles suffered an injury to his wrist during his match with Michael Shane. In the same match, Shane also injured his back and was in pain during and after his match with Kazarian against AMW on Impact. In addition, Andy Douglas of The Naturals hurt his knee during the Double Ladder Match, but should be ok to go for the Six Sided Cage match. We hope to have updates on everyone come Monday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OTHER TNA NEWS AND NOTES:

- Several members of TNA ran into none other than Shaquille O’Neal last week in Orlando prior to Impact. O’Neal recently sold his mansion out west and was returning to his home in Orlando to play for his new team, the Miami Heat (in case you’ve just recently awoken from a coma). Shaq – a longtime fan of wrestling - is looking forward to attending a future Impact with his family.

- There’s a rivalry brewing between the live TNA fans in Nashville and Orlando, and as the weeks go by the feud is getting more vocal from both sides. The Nashville fans were the loudest this past week, booing when the Orlando fans were mentioned by ring announcer Jeremy Borash. In return on Thursday, the Orlando fans answered with chants of “We’re Not Rednecks” when JB told them about it. The ball is in the court of the Nashville fans on Wednesday, and this one could get ugly…

- The twenty or so members of the TNA office and production staff who fly back to Nashville on Thursday night immediately after Impact had quite a bumpy ride due to bad weather. Yours truly – who has never liked flying – freaked when the plane hit some bad turbulence. I am happy to say that my terror was at least a form of entertainment for other TNA staff, who got a good laugh out of it.

- TNA fans in attendance at Universal Orlando Resort theme park this Thursday may see a video shoot involving The Alpha Male Monty Brown during the day. Yours truly will be assisting with it throughout the Jurassic Park attraction.

- After recently taking behind the scenes roles with TNA, both Shane Douglas and Jerry Lynn have done a tremendous job working backstage in their new positions. Along with Terry Taylor, Douglas and Lynn have been a goldmine of knowledge for many of the young wrestlers, assisting them in the ring and with interviews. I got a chance to talk to Jerry Lynn about it at Impact, and he said it’s been a great learning experience for him personally. In their new roles, Douglas and Lynn have also been introduced to one of the favorite longtime pastimes of the TNA production team – endless hours chasing down the TNA superstars throughout the day.

That’s it for this week – enjoy Wednesday’s big Pay-Per-View!

A 3LK DVD? All of the good matches out of 3LK?

How will they fill up the one hour, 58 minutes, and 46 seconds?

The worst part is that this will probably be the first video to ship out when they get national distribution

Maybe they should include the Ultimate X DVD instead and see if anybody complains about the "Bait and switch"

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the 3LK DVD is almost all Truth, with some token James and Konnan matches.

Sadly I think it will be all the lame ass skits that they did to "introduce" the 3LK to us...

I'd buy the 3LK disc. Hey, I'm a Truth mark. But, is there anyone who would buy an AMW DVD? I don't think they really suck or anything, but have they done enough to warrant their own DVD?

I barely think they've done enough to deserve tag titles, much less a DVD.

I think and AMW disk would work. The XXX feud, the Church Feud, Cage match, maybe Harris's disater of a singles "run".

The only reason they're getting it is because they're the tag team that TNA has pushed since day one. I don't really think they've had good enough matches to make a whole DVD.

-America's Most Wanted vs. Dallas and Kid Kash (Their latest tag title win)

-America's Most Wanted vs. Diamond and Swinger (Their best match)

-America's Most Wanted vs. New Church (Their best match)

-America's Most Wanted vs. The Naturals (Their best match)

-America's Most Wanted vs. Triple X (One of their regular matches)

-America's Most Wanted vs. Triple X (Cage match)

-Chris Harris vs. James Storm (Anarchy in the Asylum show or the match that got them signed by TNA in the first place)

-Chris Harris vs. Jeff Jarrett (Whenever it happened)

They could easily make a good DVD from the stuff they have. Include highlights of their title runs, Chris Harris' singles run, and their feud with the New Church that was TNA's first "big" feud and you have a DVD easily worth a look.

You really think Harris's singles push was that much of a disaster? Hell, I thought they actually did a really good job of it and he was actually molded into someone that could at least be semi-believable to win the title.

I still wanna hear anyone say they're buying it. I guess they've had decent enough matches, I just don't see anyone into them enough to buy their DVD. Once again, TNA should have one purpose in mind with the release of their DVDs: MAKE MONEY. This seems to be for the purpose of recapping the early career of a young tag-team.

Honestly, since they are pushing AMW as their top team.....I see nothing wrong with them getting their own DVD. Not to say they are my favorite team or anything....I just think they would get one considering their position in the company.

Why? If it doesn't sale, it's bad business. These shouldn't be memorial DVD's to TNA's favorites. They should put out something that sales. A tag-team DVD featuring AMW would be a better choice.

Now don't take this as me disagreeing with you because that's not what I mean. If AMW is their main team and will be billed as such for the remainder of the near future....then they SHOULD have a DVD. Simply because of the fact that since AMW will be on their show everyweek and will be a BIG part of it....they are trying to get new fans(main the ones that Impact has brought to the company......if any) to see what AMW has been doing up to the point that they have been watching. Otherwise....AMW would look as important. Also, I agree that they should be putting out something that sells.......it's just they are unbelievably stupid about going about it. Plus, I think this would see just as good as anything else they would put out(except for a chose few guys....singles at that).

...and their feud with the New Church that was TNA's first "big" feud...

Lynn/Styles was TNA's first big feud, and it concluded a few weeks before AMW/New Church really started to get interesting. I can't stress enough how Lynn/Styles put TNA on the map, and then they go around and treat Lynn like shit. The man made Styles a name in this business via their feud, and they just sweep him under the rug because Jarrett doesn't PERSONALLY like him.

I won't buy an AMW DVD, or a 3LK DVD. AMW hasn't had enough good matches (they've had three or four that have been more than your average Velocity fodder, and even in those they were carried big-time) to warrant a DVD. 3LK just sucks too bad. Why not just make it a Truth DVD? James and Konnan have been nothing but lackeys for Truth, so what the shit?

I'm still awaiting the Amazing Red DVD, considering Red is the only wrestler Don West ever splooged himself over entirely. GO, RED, GO! GO, RED, GO!

That gives me an idea...what would your pick of the matches be for a DVD about the TNA wrestler of your choosing (none that are already in the making, like Styles or AMW)? 10 matches minimum should work, and try not to include something already on another DVD (unless you feel its important enough).

Amazing Red

vs. LowKi (debut, Week 5)

vs. AJ Styles (X-Division title, their first match in TNA together)

w/ SAT vs. Tres Jobberos (I forget who against, but the first Red/SAT six-man in TNA)

vs. Jerry Lynn (I forget the date or what was important about it, but this was the match from '02 that Red took a HUUUUUGE overselling bump for the Cradle Piledriver over, unless I'm confusing this with the other Lynn/Red match)

w/ SAT vs. XXX (last show of '02)

w/ Lynn vs. XXX (Tag title win)

vs. Jerry Lynn (X-Division title #1 contendership)

vs. Kid Kash (X-Division title win)

6-man (#1 contendership to X-Division title)

vs. Dutt (third match)*

* = Show highlights of the first and second matches before this one, to bring viewers up to speed on it.

Jerry Lynn

w/ AJ Styles & Low Ki Vs. The Flying Elvis'

Vs. Psicosis, AJ Styles & Low Ki

Vs. Amazing Red (top rope Cradle)

Vs. Amzing Red #1 Contenders Match

w/ Amzing Red Vs. XXX

...well, I got five matches. I'm sure there's more, but five should be enough....

I can't remember if Lynn and Styles have had a one-on-one match. Or Lynn & Low Ki....

Yeah I don't see the point of a 3LK DVD seeing as they have had more XPlosion matched than actual PPV. I can see them documenting how they began, their tag team title win and defense, maybe some of the Truth/Konnan tag matches, but not a lot. Plus maybe they will show the 3LK music video they taped at the beginning of the year and I don't think ever showed. Might be good, but not terrific.

I think it would probably feature Truth in singles matches more than anything. If not, it is worthless.

I'd like to apologize for disapearing, but my computer is being a Swigg, in other words, a bitch.

I don't think I'd buy the AMW DVD becuase I have most of their best stuff on tape already.

The Red/Sat debut was against the Elvis's. Their second (which I think Laz was refering to) was against Kash/Slim J and Sharky.

Add in the two three way's Lynn had with Ki and Styles on to the Lynn DVD idea.

Anything I miss?

The only points that I'll give to Swigg is that he left it up to his reader to figure out that Last Free Voice = defecation. Which....I'm pretty sure we all got that right away.
