Guest GreatOne Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I mean hell Benoit and Edge (on RAW anyway) really aren't gonna work as faces until they start doing so. Anyone think that Austin and Rock would have worked nearly as well if their "prime" characters were that of their bland 2001/02 selves? Hell Foley bitched in his book about Rock not being a "nice" character. Too bad, he was also at his peak as a face playing that same character. Conversely Rock's "nice" character pretty much made Brock a face (although it was NYC) by default. So I find absolutely nothing wrong with Benoit doing "whatever it takes to hold onto the belt" against HHH next week or Edge "cheating" to beat Evolution. There's a reason that HHH is still somewhat "all over your screen", somebody has to step up with the two most over faces in WWE history not named Hogan a memory. Benoit and Edge, not really any fault of their own but still, that isn't an excuse, haven't done it (to a reasonable extent) yet, this would be what they need. Blaming their shortfalls for bad booking is like blaming the manager (or hitting coach) for your star vets hitting .245. I mean at some point you've gotta put it on the actual perfomers. Think if Austin had done some normal "Yeah he beat me but you know what that was luck" blah blah instead of "Did I lose to Savio Vega cause I lost, or did I do it to get rid of him (Dibiase)" he'd have gotten anywhere near KOTR? Think if Rock hadn't, you know, developed a character that wasn't a complete "girlyman" (you go Arnie) he would have gone anywhere? Hell Brock wouldn't be such a loss (although with SD's improvement he becomes a little less important each day) if he hadn't improved roughly 800% between the Hogan, Rock, and Taker (HIAC) matches. Conversely, you had Test act as Mr. Roboto during the HHH/Steph storyline and that was the end of him. So yeah you can rail on Vince all you want for who he does and doesn't push, bottom line it's up to whoever to carry (or fumble) the ball.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Chris Jericho is the best 'tweener on Raw but all he does is the Highlight Reel and get beatup by Kane.
Guest Bad Brad Jacobs Report post Posted July 21, 2004 well said.... hopefully somone from the WWE will read this and decide that not everyone wants 100% heels and 100% faces all the time.
Guest The Ultimate Fantasy Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I like how Edge really dose not care about people like Benoit or Eugene, he's just obsessed with taking Evolution out one by one. Perhaps they could have Edge go insane and beat the hell out Flair, and then yell at the fans for daring to be angry at him.

Guest GreatOne Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Look at Eddie. He's a good example of a tweener. Well the term tweener doesn't apply if you're the most over face on the show. I like heelish face better since it's the more appropo description. You could have argued for either/or between Rock and Austin in 99 depending on which one or the other you thought was the bigger face as a "tweener". Foley was a good example of the straight face, Austin being the tweener, and Rock being the heel face. Other good examples are Cena (back around SurSer) Diesel (after Vince thankfully came to his senses and took the belt off him), and Foley (after Vader went apeshit on him at Clash XVI or whichever the hell it was) I like how Edge really dose not care about people like Benoit or Eugene And in that case Edge actually WOULD be a tweener except there's really no #1 face on RAW right now. In fact you can make the argument for ORTON as the #1 face since the top faces are as bland as ex-Lions receiver Carl Chris Jericho is the best 'tweener on Raw but all he does is the Highlight Reel and get beatup by Kane. Well he actually did have Kane dead to rights after nailing him with the camerawell before the Batista run-in and the fact that he's still involved with Batista puts him above Kane on the totem pole for now..........Plus, has he really done anything heelish as a face--other than cheating in Raw Is Musical Chairs? algrim 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 My mistake. I should've specified that I was referring to Eddie when he had the U.S. TITLE. He would cheat constantly in a match, whether he was wrestling Benoit (face) or Rhyno (heel).
Guest GreatOne Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Yeah that would be another example.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 has he really done anything heelish as a face Jericho did have the Divas destroy the office of Unkle Eric.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 21, 2004 A good example of an over, middle of the road tweener was Kane right after he unmasked and right before he went heel. He beat the crap out of anyone in his path, and of course, when someone does that they get over. Example: Diesel cleaning house at 1994 Rumble of someone getting over beating everyone up.
