geniusMoment Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 The iron man match will just be a backdrop, they are using it like Nitro used cruiser matches, as a way to talk about more important things while having action in the ring. What am I talking about, well, I think everyone knows.
AndrewTS Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Thanks a ****ing load, America! Also, yeah--Iron Man match will get a lousy rating next week.
Guest tangerine Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 What I don't get about the Ironman Match is this... What's the cause? It sounds like Bischoff only made the match because he wanted to trump Smackdown's Cage match. Shouldn't a match, like my suggested lengthy 2/3 falls match predicate a need for a IRON MAN match? Why didn't HHH protest it? Unless he knew of it well in advanced, im not understanding why he would be gleeful of the match considering it's a match that puts him at a disadvantage with his knee and quad history. I just don't like the usage of the Iron Man match for the sake of a iron man match. That's my problem with most gimmick matches, they are often times done for the SAKE of being a Gimmick match. Ladder matches being the biggest violator of that.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Speaking of ladder matches....isn't it about that time again for RAW to have a big IC Title Match with Ladder stipulations? Seems like it's been forever since there has been one.
Guest tangerine Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 That's mainly because of the fact Matt Hardy, Edge, Christian and Eddy are injured. You can easily contribute their injuries being a cause of ladder matches. They haven't banged out a Ladder match, i don't believe since Christian/RVD last fall. I'm sure they will do a Orton/Benjamin Ladder match simply because Ladder match is a crucial step in the "Recycle the Rock's path" tour Orton is taking.

Guest Staravenger Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Did Vince all of a sudden forget he told the writers of RAW and SD to NOT compete in storylines? Now Bischoff is making matches to top SD...oh well. Logic in Wrestling...

Does that mean that Benjamin's going to be following HHH's path, probably getting Shaniqua as a valet and eventually being hated by us while Orton is beloved? Of course, by that logic Batista would be Mark Henry...
JustJoe2k5 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Edge vs. Randy Orton in a ladder match would be a good main event match next week. People who watch the Iron-Man match will most likely turn the channel during the Diva Search, so just hype the ladder match during the iron-man match to ensure they get some of those fans back. I would think most wrestling fans would be more likely to turn back for a Edge vs. Randy Orton ladder match than Batista vs. Chris Jericho or Chris Jericho vs. Kane.

2GOLD Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 The ladder match has been the one gimmick match they don't overuse so I don't think they need to start now. And frankly, as much as I still dislike Orton, he is above the IC title by now. I remember when the IC title was basically the stepping stone to the WWF title for the ones who could get over. Like Hitman, Austin, Rock, Triple H, HBK, and almost everyone who has held the title. Orton needs to move up and Kane needs to drop down. Until the Big Red Dope can put on a PPV match that isn't horrible, he needs to be removed from the RAW main event. Same goes for Edge although he is more out of pure need since they are busy sinking Jericho and HBK is nursing injuries.
AndrewTS Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 "The ladder match has been the one gimmick match they don't overuse so I don't think they need to start now." Come again? They HAVE been overusing it more than anything else. They had a couple of them on Raw, even.

Now Bischoff is making matches to top SD...oh well. Logic in Wrestling... Logic would dictate that competing brands would try to out-do each other like WWE and WCW used to. I think a lot of people here think they're a lot smarter than they really are when it comes to the WWE.
