Guest NoMercy Report post Posted July 23, 2004 I just finished watching Jody Fleisch vs Jonny Storm from 06 22 2002 in ROH which was part of the Round Robin I believe, and I was so astonished at the amount of blown spots that I just had to comment. I've seen some of both wrestlers' work before and admittedly expected a blown spot or two, but almost the whole match seemed like they were lost and had no clue what to do, as if it were their first match or something. I think the worst part about seeing all the fumbles was it was even less excusable as the announcers pointed out that Jonny Storm and Jody Fleisch have faced off against each other over a hundred and fifty times or so in the last few years. Usually if you are familiar with another worker like that it is guarenteed that you would have a few good spots worked out to perfection or at least put on a decent match. I was totally let down by the end of this match. The only way I could understand why this match was so blown would be if, I'll assume Jonny, was injured, or both were injured. I really do believe this match was the most amount of blown spots I've ever seen in a match.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 23, 2004 I've seen the match, and it didn't strike me as having alot of blown spots, but just being really sloppy and choreographed. I think when I tried to review it (which never got done for one reason or another) I gave it like... two and a half stars. If you want to see some sad blown spots, watch the Six man match that had Red in it with Sonjay I think agianst Team Japan. THAT was sad.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 23, 2004 That match does have it's fair share of blown spots there NoMercy, but if you want to see what they can really do.....check out CZW Best of the Best 3 tournament(if you already haven't). Their match on there is about **** - ****1/4.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Why does Fleisch do a shooting star piledriver? Does it have ANY advantage over a regular piledriver, or is it just to say 'wow look what I can do'? Move sure seems pointless to me.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 In the ROH match vs. Low Ki, it was meant to be a Springboard Shooting Star DDT, but Ki was in the wrong place and Fleisch landed a piledriver instead. It wasn't intentional.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Must I remind everyone of WWE's Jackie Gayda? 3:00 match and she blew everything she did.
Guest Quik Report post Posted July 23, 2004 How the fuck do you pull off a shooting star piledriver?

It wasn't intentional. That's pretty much just as pointless. Why not just deliver a springboard or tornado DDT? The 'shooting star' bit really adds nothing but flashiness. It doesn't make the move anymore meaningful. How the fuck do you pull off a shooting star piledriver? Opponent is standing. Fleisch would then springboard into a shooting star press, but with an extra rotation so that he's almost coming down in a senton splash. His legs would pull (in theory), the opponent's head to the mat, and he would then be spiked. They'd land in a piledriver.

Well, of couse, but I don't expect a Bryan Danielson match out of Jody with everything surving a purpose. Also, lots of things are just for flash, like the stardust press, the shooting star press, moonsault. They all could just be regular chest to chest splashes, but sometimes being flashy could pop the crowd and make things interesting.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2004 But at least with a moonsault or a SSP, you can say you're building momentum. They look alot more painful than a regualr splash. SS Piledriver dos NOTHING. But you're right, it is just for flash. I've got no problem with it, it's just kinda pointless.

Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2004 Is the CZW match where Fleisch runs up the wall?
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2004 Yeah, it is. Really great match. And a Shooting Star Piledriver could technically be seen as a more deadly move than a regular piledriver, as Jody (in kayfabe of course) would have extra momentum coming down and also is more likely to spike the guy due to the angle of his rotation. Technically. It's still about 85% flash even in that case. Now, the Dragonrana...that's another matter.

Dragonranas hardly ever look good(except when Dragon Kid does them) because the person doing them usually blows it.
