Ricky Williams or not, the Pats were gonna cut through the Dolphins like a hot knife. This benefits the Bills more than anyone.

You just know the way things work in this fucked up world that Fielder will channel some of that Montana/Elway magic and actually drive the team to the sb.

This shit happens all the time ya know.

It would be funny if they tried to trade for Ricky Williams of the Colts.

Just to see the headline

"RICKY WILLIAMS BACK IN MIAMI!"

All the Dolphins go insane, high fives, jumping up and down

"The Miami Dolphins acquired running back Ricky Williams from the Colts today"

Then see the joy leave their face as its announced they gave up a second round pick for him.

Miami could probably get Bettis from Pitts for a 4th or 5th round pick. He can be their 1st and 2nd down back along with goaline. Better than nothing.

"I just don't want to be in this business anymore," Williams told the paper. "I was never strong enough to not play football, but I'm strong enough now. I've considered everything about this. Everyone has thrown every possible scenario at me about why I shouldn't do this, but they're in denial. I'm happy with my decision.

"I'm finally free. I can't remember ever being this happy."

From the article up on ESPN.com.

Good for him.

Juuuuust wonder-fucking-ful.

Why couldn't he have done this before the draft, or before Eddie George was signed? Hell, in time so the could've made a play for Corey Dillon.

Fuck fuck fuck.

Where's your Ricky Williams' jokes out now?! HUH? HUH?! Heh, it's okay... I actually feel bad for you in this situation, bro. Talk about... some bad news.

Ironically, I was just reading an article today on Robert Smith, another running back who decided to retire early in his career.

Good for Williams though. It is kind of sad to think of what might have been, but at least he'll go out at his peak, instead of way past his prime like Emmitt Smith, et al, have. I'll miss the hair, and his ability, but I hope he has a nice retirement.

I feel bad for the Dolphins, their fans, and any fantasy owners who happened to draft Ricky Williams(especially those in deep leagues.) That has got to be a definite setback.

Also, is this a good thing or a bad thing for Dave Wannstedt? It seemed like he would be out on his ass if he had another disappointing year, but, without Williams, he could possibly use that as an excuse for the poor season to buy him some more time. On the other hand, if Miami is rebuilding, they may just turf him anyway. I am thinking they're fire him after the season unless he finds a way to field a successful team, but what do you guys think?

Posted

Ricky or no, no playoffs, Wannstedt is GONE, I have no doubts about it.

As for the news, it's sad that he fell out of love with the game and leave the Fins in the lurch, but I think being the focal point of the Dolphins offense for the better part of three (?) years just wore him out. He probably didn't like guys using his hair to pull him down, either.

There are tons of teams that revolve their systems around their back (Priest Holmes?) so I doubt that's the one... he's has taken tons of punishment (because of the type of back he is), but there still is something out of sync here.

It's not ironic, it's just coincidental.

Sorry. It had to be done.

I wonder what he is going to do next... and whether he will re-appear in say... 2 years or so claiming he rediscovered his love of the game and it drew him back.

I highly doubt that... Ricky just doesn't seem like the kind of person that would do something like that.

Yeah but the Chiefs have a good QB so if Priest were to get injured he'd still be able to handle it. Miami......has nothing. Guess if you're going to revolve around the RB you'd better have a QB that can back it up.

Oh and this sucks. I like Ricky.....a lot. I'm glad he's happy and all but jeez.....just like Barry Sanders. I mean Barry was better than Ricky but Ricky still could've been great.

My first reaction is: HOLY DOG SHIT! My second is pretty similar. Didnt see this coming at all. Too bad for the Dolphins, I thought this could be their year to make the playoffs finally. wtf

This makes me want to puke blood.

I'm sure after some consideration I'll be happy for Ricky and admire his ability to be his own man and walk away on his terms... but right now... goddammit.

Ricky Williams, this goes out to you. You screwed my Bills time and time again. I've always hated you. However, I've always hated the Dolphins that much more, and the way you just totally screwed them over before the start of the season with no warning, I now have a great respect for you. Best of luck my friend.

How 'bout that. Good for you, Ricky. The average lifespan of an NFL RB is less than five seasons, anyway. Nice to get out rich without destroyed knees.

Except, that was for totally different reasons. Smith was a great running back like Williams, but he had already had 3 major leg surgeries and was litterally killing himself on the field.
