Worst one-game announcing performance

Recommended Posts

John Madden

I'm sorry, but Madden hasn't made a good point since 1987. His comments really don't come off like he is a football guru, rather he comes off like a drunk fan who stumbled into the booth and tied up Madden.

"You know, it's a lot harder to come back from 21 points than 14."

Well gee, thanks for shedding light on that for me John. Next, would you like to explain to me what that brown thing the guy who says HIKE is throwing?

Does it have a name John?

"A quarterback who can move around is more dangerous than one who can't."

REALLY JOHN?!?!? Dear god, what would I ever do without you!

You know, people who have never seen the game of football know those simple points. I would just love to see Madden call a baseball game so I can hear, "you know, it's much better when the pitcher is striking batters out instead of walking them."

Here's another Madden classic...

During the final Super Bowl he did with Pat Summerall, I think it was the Rams-Patriots...

Madden: "Now, ya see, the key to playing good defense is to tackle the guy with the football."

Thanks, John.

OK, sure Madden and Pat are WAAAAAAY past their prime, and that Super Bowl performance wasn't too good. However, Pat did have a cute line at the end of the game reminding us that he was in the only NFL Championship game that went to OT.

And I still like Madden. I don't know why, but I just do...

If anyone ever wants to here some bad announcing just listen to a game called by Mike Shannon and Wayne Hagin in St. Louis.

Usually with radio announcers, you can somewhat tell what is going on by what they say. Not with these two. Shannon is either talking about cold ones or one of his golf classics or his restaraunt while Hagin goes over meaningless facts and stories about the players on the field. Shannon is obviously drunk or he at least has a fairly good buzz every game from about the 4th inning on.

On whoever complained about Bill Walton during Lakers games...come on. That stuff is classic.

*Shaq dunks the ball * Shaq is at the apex of the human spirit, displaying will, determination and an understanding of the atom. This is a special game.

*Shqa badly misses a free throw* The downfall of western civilization is upon us, Shaq, the Diesel, Shaquille O'Neal, a man of great strength, speed, agility and passion, cannot master a simple task. What a sad day in America. This is a special game.
