1) I'm sure he will draw in some fans, but not just because he was in the WWE. Lesnar was an NCAA champ at the U of Minnesota, and college/high school wrestling is MUCH more popular in Big Ten country than most other regions. I'm sure among local fans he's achieved "local legend" status.

 

2) I don't see why everyone is up-in-arms about this. It's not like he'll make or break the Vikings D. In fact, I'd argue DT is one of the most "safe" positions to play on D in the sense that it's not obvious when you get burned. Very few DTs are big enough impact players to make or break their team's defense. One of them, Chris Hovan, coicidentally happens to play for Minnesota.

This guy's the next John Randle I tells ya! If he becomes any good they'll ship him to the Seahawks in a few years to keep up their tradition of sending us aging pass-rushers. Hell let's trade for Mixon when we're three games into the season and the Tubbs/Moore/Bernard/Woodard rotation isn't the answer!

 

Skeptical on him making it, the NFL is too advanced these days for someone who hasn't played since high school, amateur champ or not. Plus his parting with/pissing on the company that made him a bigger star than he deserved to be still kind of leaves a bitter taste (turned most smarks against Austin when everyone thought he was just bitching about not wanting to job to him, killed RVD off for the last time, butchered Rock for him--hell if I was Taker I wouldn't have been "feeling it" either).

 

Amateur wrestling might be huge in Big Ten land, but Angle was even an Olympic gold winner and six months later was almost a memory.

Yes, Offensive Tackles are often Big, Slow, and Rooted...which is why speedy DEs beat them. Brock's Speed and Size would make him an ideal DE. He could probably play Inside LineBacker too.

If I were to guess, I'd say the reason the Vikings signed Lesnar is that they realized there was a chance he could not only develop into a decent player down the road with all his physical tools, but also has the chancer to contribute this year on special teams.

 

I mean really, what do you have to do on kickoff? Stay in your lane, run quickly down the field and hit someone. Well, Brock's as fast as they come for a man his size, and I sure wouldn't want to block him when he's had 40 or 50 yards to get a head of steam.

 

As far as drawing crowds go, this isn't baseball or hockey or soccer or something. This is the NFL. The Vikings already sell out every game at exorbitant prices, and will continue to do so, unless they somehow manage to start out 0-11, or decide that they're moving to Los Angeles next year. The last thing the NFL needs to do is sign a "draw" as a special attraction.

Seriously. The guy has incredible physical assets, and when he grabs ahold of someone, they're going to the ground. I bet he'll do alright, considering he's a natural athlete.

Part of me want wants him to live his dreams, yet part of me wants him to get cut off so he can comeback to WWE again.

 

The guy has constantly been improving until the last day he was in the company. I swear he was on his way to be one of the best all around performers ever in a few years. his moveset, selling, pshycology, matwork, mic skills, facial expressions and mannerisms have become much better than they were when he won the belt the first time from The Rock and has almost became a box office attraction at the end of his career. I thought it was stupid from Vince to let him go just like that. He should have given him a travel schedule he could mentally handle and not force him to get burried by Taker. Vince thought he would eventually come crawling back to him, Now Brock has served a big fuck you to him and everybody else who disliked him. Just look at how Smackdown has become since he left. If anybody is going to reply that Brock doesn't deserve to be treated as "elit". Tell that to Taker and HBK who are part timers and STILL at the top even though they haven't sold out crowds in years.

Normal, non-wrestling fans in Minnesota, by and large, know who Brock Lesnar is. He's something of a household word, not on the level of the Rock or Hogan, but I've heard 60 year old women discussiong him where I work, so there you go.

 

As far as this all goes, I was pleased but not too surprised. Tice seemed somewhat impressed with his potential in workouts, and I think he wanted Brock at least on the practice squad so he could work with Brock some more. It'll be a tough road, but, as most people realize, if he works at the game and learns it as quick and as well as he learned pro wrestling, he'll be a force.

 

Position-wise, his speed makes him a natural choice for DE, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikes moved him around a bit like they did John Randle.

 

In any case, the preseason just got a hell of a lot more interesting.

I think if he learns fast enough and doesn't downgrade then he has a chance to be on the roster next season, though on special teams or third string.

 

This year, I see him making the practice squad if he can keep his mental in check and process the information they throw at him. If he can't, he's done.

I wonder if the Vikes will sell "Lesnar" jerseys? Team chemistry-wise, it would definitely piss off the guys who are ahead of Brock on the depth chart. Business-wise, however, you know they would sell. Maybe not on the level of Moss or Culpepper jerseys, but better than Mo Williams jerseys.
