Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Helmer Fernando Meirelles' O2 Filmes is developing a sequel to multiple Oscar nominee City of God, reports Variety. Filming for the sequel, titled City of Men, is slated to begin in 2006. Paulo Morelli, Meirelles' partner in O2 Filmes, would likely direct the gangland epic set in Rio's hillside slums. Miramax will not be involved this time around. At this stage, no distributor is involved with the project. Douglas Silva and Darlan Cunha, two of the young actors in City of God, are expected to star in the sequel. City of Men is also the title of a TV mini-series spin-off that has aired on Globo TV since 2002.
Ravenbomb Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 damn those Hollywood bastards and their sequel-making ways!!! *shakes fist*
Guest cellardoor Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 This could go both ways. REALLY good or REALLY bad. Either way, I'll end up seeing it. I was kinda shocked when I read the title. I never expected a sequel to a film like this.

I never expected a sequel to a film like this. Ditto here as well. I wouldn't mind seeing more work from the director, Fernando Meirellas, but I am not sure "City of God" warrants a sequel.
