Tony149 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) If I skipped anything, my bad. It was a good length show this week. Good opening match involving the Bryant Cousins. Nice way to debut the new tag. But I'm biased to anything that boosts the tag division. The Saints-COD angle continues to be a hit, loved every minute of it. I like the way Patty spices HD up with the fonts, italics, etc. Especially the way he keeps in whatever the others use to spice up their stuff as well. Excellent. Dug the Hoff-Stevens back-to-back promos. The next segment of the show was something we rarely attempt -- "video packages." I like the fact it put over GPX's huge win and BT. It was something done in the last minute as I wasn't sure whether or not I'd have the time to cook that up while writing the Frankensteiners debut, Watts' statement and the NNMX promo/match against the Love Doctors. Plus I love the fact it was done old school, complete with hit '80s rock song. Sticking with my old school fix -- I loved doing Watts' promo, from his office. Reminded me of the days of Jack Tunney giving a statement on WWF happenings. R.I.P. tinted blue tag belt. If you're wondering why the Frankensteiners match seemed short, see two paragraphs above. When it comes to match writing, I'm still new to it. Remember, I was never a regular until I hooked up with Eskimo to form Black T. So I'm sorta like a rookie. :lol Liked Caboose's comments concerning the...technical problems LTP experienced. Nice cover-up. Parka's stuff continues to bring the suspense. Well done. GPX's title regin got off to a good start with a W or The Saints. Enjoyed SJ-Hyland, although I kinda wish I would of read that match before the show went up. I wanted BT to take the week off, especially T-Bod who got suplexed off a ladder into the ring, but it is what it is. T-Bod is now Superman! I thought the NNMX-LD match was handled well. Much like everything I wrote this week, it was sorta rushed but it did its job. HH joining up with Cornette & the NNMX? Hm. Awesome, awesome promo from the Champ & the challenger. Loved Gertner's cameo. That's why Zack's one of the best promo guys in the business. Haven't read all of the main event, but I did read the finish. I now must edit the Title History thread. One last thing. Had I known there wouldn't be a GPX promo I would of showcased the new tag title belt. For those wondering why the hell Watts mentioned the new belts but they were nowhere to been seen, here it is: Edited August 13, 2004 by Tony149
Patty O'Green 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 Good show! I already told Hoff what I thought of his match over PM, so I won't repeat myself but it was great. Tony had a nice little video package and I'm glad he made one because I needed an example of how to do one! I was going to put Watts' skit before the show, but then I saw that Tony had edited in a video package and it totally threw me off. Was I supposed to write a GPX promo due to also writing their match? Parka's handled his angle well so far. He's done a nice job of keeping it interesting and fresh and making sure it never drags. I'd leave more feedback, but I have to pack.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I'm sorry if Rick/Cain seemed half assed. I was very tired when I wrote that match because of my new job.
Tony149 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) Was I supposed to write a GPX promo due to also writing their match? No, I had asked Zack to write it (taking him up on his offer to do so) but I guess he was too busy this week. It would of been GPX's victory promo with the board of directors presenting them the new (and great-looking) tag titles. Maybe if I had a pair of tits he would of squeezed that in. Watts could of opened the show, but you probably saw it was tagged with the music video and figured they go together. Video packages detailing feuds have been done in the past but I never thought they looked good; they either were too long or had too much filler. I basically "clipped" the tag match, keeping all the big spots and using "audio" during key points. A "video" will also be used for the opening of AS. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I used to do video packages all the time. Mine were less recapping of a feud and more those cool music videos to hype up a match. I need to start doing those again.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 A glimpse into Hoff's life: On Thursday nights I go bowling. It's $1 a game and they have DDR, so it's become ritual. Anyway, after bowling I go to my friend Adam's (usually), and while here I only skim the promos, because a. we've got other stuff going on and b. he's got this old, low-res monitor and I can't stand looking at it too long. So long story short, I've only skimmed the promos. Zack/Crystal was well done, I love Zack's descent into madness, but what really stuck out for me was Axel messing with Crystal's head, and Logan and Synth arguing. Very well written on both fronts...I was "feeling" it. And I genuinely felt BAD for poor Alix. Looks to be good this week, more detail later. Also, any feedback for Hoff/Stevens would be more appreciated than you know, since I put more into this than anything I've done to date. Thanks in advance. caboose 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 Liked Caboose's comments concerning the...technical problems LTP experienced. Nice cover-up. Not just a cover up...
Guest The Mad Cappa Report post Posted August 14, 2004 From what I got to read from it, it was very good. I laughed at caboose's LTP cover up. Since my sis put in a request for a refund, how long does she have to wait for the Zack Malibu cuddly doll?! Screw DDR, from what I have heard, it's the new thing in town. So where can I find a copy of this Hoff Hoff Revolution?

Hoff 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 LONG FORMAT 'Cause I'm long, and I'm strong, and I'm down to get the friction on... Anyway. More than solid show this week, with more great stuff from the tag division, and a lot of unfolding drama in a lot of stories, plus some good matches. - Liked the announcement of Sly being barred and the tag match next week (next week, next week, NEXT WEEK! That's the way to build the shows!). Should be interesting. - The Bryant cousins really showed off what they could do. Tom's great at just coming up with crazy spots. I love it. One thing I did notice was that a lot of times, the announcers referred to Alex as cocky or arrogant and I didn't really see why. I did in a way, but he could emote a little and still keep a different character than Sean. But just a minor thing. Very enjoyable match. - I always love Candie promos. As Zack's doll, she seems quiet, ineffective sometimes. But, when she goes off on her own it's always entertaining. Innocent Alix was the perfect straightwoman. And, to be honest, I felt genuinely bad for this fictional character who'd had her heart ripped out. Nice piece of writing, by whoever (Northie?). I also loved the knock on her appearance at the end, because women can be catty like that, and to help better visualize the characters. Nicely done. - AWESOME vid package by Tony, I love that sort of stuff and he did it well, showcasing that great match last week. It came off very well. - The Watts promo was great, it summed up everything nicely and built to NEXT WEEK OMG~! and AngleSlam. Plus new belts, r0ck4g3. - I can't believe I just typed "r0ck4g3." I feel dirty. - Cool debut for the Frankenstieners. Quite the cheesy team...I like. The "they ain't getting paid by the hour" line reminded me of how much I hate J.R., but that's okay. Short, sweet, to the point. Ethnic jobbers rule too. - I, too, liked Caboose's little "statement" and felt it was nice to see the LTP fiasco mentioned again. - I love Father! He's such a great evil mastermind, total Dr. Wily. It's great. Building to AS as well, excellent. - I'm thrilled that Axel and Crystal aren't buddy-buddy all of a sudden now that Axel's back. The continuity here was great. And, the emotion was great. Axel's dark side mixed with his kind side, the side that loves Crystal, was coo. And Crystal seems INTENSE~! leading up to AS. - In a world full of posers, phonies, and wannabees, there finally emerges a group which has come to set the record straight. So, all you suckers better recognize, ya heard can you say uhhh na na na na I mark out EVERY SINGLE TIME. Hot little match. I have to say, when the Saints debuted, I wasn't into them...at all. Now, they're maybe my second or third fav team behind GPX and possibly Black T. Anyway, yeah. Good match, and I loved the ending. When interference makes sense it makes a happy Hoff. The T.F. Powerbomb was a nice touch, too. I love the move. - What I like about Rick is the same thing I think I myself failed at earlier in the year, and that's that the transition from heel to face has been smooth and natural. Rick is just who he is, and he's a stand-up guy. Anyway, good match. Cain has good big man offense without being generic, and the beatdown was nicely done as well. - Logan and Synth's promo was their best yet, as it delved a little deeper into their personalities. I like the tension, I just hope it doesn't lead to a split soon. The comments about blogging were funny. Strangely, I think I like Synth waaay more than Logan...hmm. Anyway good, fun yet serious stuff. - Joseph/Hyland...short, but served a great purpose. Cappa is playing a great unwilling heel. It's been done BUT it's being done well. - Great Cornette promo about the poll, and dueling champs are cool. I'm not sure I'm down with all the gimmicky teams, but more teams are better I suppose. I was just surprised they got so much offense in on the NNMX. Interesting working arrangement with the Midnights and the Hitmen, and I'm looking forward to seeing how far it goes. - Crystal's promo was GREAT buildiup to AngleSlam. And, like I've said a million times, I love Zack's slow burn into madness. It makes the World Title seem so important. Great great promo. - Here's something. Whether it's Panther or Bryte, Uncle Kev or Jackie...all the characters that Papa writes have miles of charisma. It's just neat. Anyway, cool promo by Bryte and Uncle Kev that gave some more backstory. The restraining order...well...it made sense in this instance, at least. Not my cup of tea as far as wrestling angles go, but again, Papa wrote it well and it worked. - Anger from Cappa again showing his "good" side. I likes. Overall, a good show. I thought the matches were as good as ever. LP, nothing seemed half-assed. Anyway, there you are. Nothing from Drek this week but they can't all be winners. So...yeah. Anything anyone has to say about ANY of the Hoff/Stevens stuff, positive or negative, would still be appreciated. I don't want to sound like Dama (with no offense meant TO Dama) but I genuinely tried to put together the best match and promos I could, and I'd like to know what worked and didn't. NYU 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2004 Ultra-quick feedback right now. I should be back with my usual, long-winded feedback opinions this Thursday. Hoff, I loved the 24/7 Title match between Chris Stevens and Hoff this week. The fact that Stevens was able to manhandle Hoff the way he did - something that not many people, if any at all, have ever been able to do - really did a great job in making the guy look like a superstar. The action in this thing was just awesome as well. Some sick arm submissions from Chris, impressive power moves from Hoff with his LEFT arm, DDT through the announcing table.....and, of course, the end with Chris almost overcoming a 3-on-1 handicap against The Thrillogy make this a possible Match-of-the-Year candidate. The emotion in this match, the absolute hatred that Chris Stevens had for Hoff, was felt from the beginning, and it successfully drove the entire thing. And, even though Hoff now has to deal with Gunner, I hope his rivalry with Stevens isn't forgotten. They just seem to have this natural distaste for each other and that - coupled with just how well their styles fit together, as seen from this match - is the kind of thing that can REALLY be remembered. Definite **** match. With all that being said, this was a really good episode of HeldDown - even though *cough* Drek Stone didn't make an appearance. Great debut from the Bryant Brothers. Yet another captivating segment in the Rick Edwards saga. Excellent Tag Title match with the Saints/GPX. Another fantastic interview segment between Zack/Crystal. Very well written segment with Candie/Alix - like Hoff, I surprisingly found myself feeling bad for a fictional character. Good developments with Cappa. Everything was just well done, and things are really starting to look good going into AngleSlam!
Patty O'Green 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2004 I always love Candie promos. Every skit/match involving The Saints or Chicks Over Dicks, I've written since the start of the groupie shit. So I wrote the skit with Alix. As for Candie's promos, I think I've written most of the ones where she's off on her own. With the exception of the characters I've controled, I've written more skits/matches with her then anyone else. Strangely, I think I like Synth waaay more than Logan. That's odd. Synth's supposed to be very annoying. Nobody is supposed to like him. Although next to Logan's slightly vanilla and and pseudo intellectual personality, I can see why Synth would be more interesting.
