I never understood why American coverage is so crummy.

American networks want women to watch, and women don't like sports. Therefore we get lots of Dateline-esqe human interest stories about the athletes, and gymnastics.

Hmm...in Canada they do. That still doesn't explain the lack of live coverage though.

Essentially, the qualifying tournament was single elimination, which is a TERRIBLE idea for a sport where the worst team in MLB history still won 25% of their games.

I don't see why he would, seeing as how the story about him inventing baseball is basically fiction invented by Spalding, and there are far more legitimate claims to that distinction.

The point is that baseball is a sport ill-suited for single game playoffs. A best-of-three series is more suitable.

Except that I believe they have time issues to deal with. It is unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

I'm suprised. Not that the USA team isn't qualified, but that it doesn't have something to do with steroids and the fact that Selig is as blind as Vince McMahon when it comes to them.

If you let the teams play a few more games, EVERY team would lose. The US losing to Mexico does NOT mean Mexico is a better team. Play that game ten times, and the US wins seven. Given the nature of chance in baseball, a single game is a ridiculous assessment of talent.

 

All the single elimination format does is let inferior teams into the Olympics over superior teams.

HIGHLY doubtful. They've been blown out by Puerto Rico and Italy now, and barely beat a team that didn't even qualify for the Olympics (Germany).

 

This team isn't even just bad. They're the definition of complete utter sucktitude. Wait for them to play a real team like Serbia...

We will see. My prediction looks bold at the moment, but I think they will get the hang of the international game as the tournament progresses.
