ECW November To Remember 97

Recommended Posts

Yeah...just got this on DVD and it's the earliest ECW PPV show I have. Notable for RVD doing the most ridiculous sell of a piledriver ever, Beulah looking smoking hot and Sandman/Sabu putting on a terrible TLC Match. Anyway...I watched it and I'm not totally familiar with a few things, so here's some random questions.

1) Stevie Richards showing up...was this when he was with WCW (and if so why was he allowed to be on the show), was he with the WWF who were obviously involved with ECW at the time or was this an actual return to ECW?

2) Lance Wright's bodyguard who Tazz punks out wrestled for the WWF as Brakkus, right?

3) What was the deal with Douglas after his match? He had injuries going in I understand, but did he have legitimate injuries from the match because his post-match 'celebration' certainly seemed that way.

4) What was the deal with Al Snow and Head's origin?

And 5) What the FUCK was up with Lance Storm hair? Seriously, that ponytail was horrendous.

I believe this was between his runs in WCW and WWE. He left WCW, showed up in ECW quite randomly, and was quickly in the WWE soon after.

Yep, that's Brakkus.

The Shane Douglas celebration thing was just a circle jerk.

This was after Richards' brief WCW run with Raven and The Flock. Richards was actually set to win the ECW Title due to his popularity from the bWo gimmick, but bolted for WCW during an injury hiatus. He was crowned "Superstar" Stevie Richards during this return, but was gone shortly after, only to turn up in the WWF in '98.

That was Brakkus, who was notable for mumbling, incoherent promos, a match with Jesus of the Boricuas on RAW, and getting his ass kicked in the Brawl For All, IIRC.

The PPV was in Shane's hometown. The Douglas/Bigelow deal was them trying to do the "hometown hero overcomes monster heel" type of story. Only problem is that Douglas was the heel up to that point, and Bigelow had just recently gone face to challenge him for/win the belt.

4) What was the deal with Al Snow and Head's origin?

It was a spoof on a lot of the insider dirt at the time, but got over huge. Meltzer thought it was too inside for casual fans, but found it to be pretty funny.

And 5) What the FUCK was up with Lance Storm hair? Seriously, that ponytail was horrendous.

The man obviously was stuck in 1992. Although it's a good thing he was a heel at that point, because I couldn't get behind a babyface with a Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch haircut.

Douglas losing the title only to get it right back was dumb. And even worse, he held the title for another 14 months after that. Rarely defending it due to injury

They had to play it that way though, because the storyline was that Rude was bringing in challengers to "toughen him up", then got his own enforcer to turn against him. Rude then jumped to WCW and left the angle in the dust, so there was really no point in keeping it on Bam Bam.
