Guest fanofcoils Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Right after posting this I read that there is something called Windows XP SP 2 or something. Well I am referring to the next operating system.
GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 The next version of Windows is codenamed "Longhorn" and it's currently in beta. It will be out in 2006 at the earliest. Intel is still stretching the life of Pentium 4's. They've pushed back the release of 4 GHZ P4 processors until 2005. I don't care about AOL.
Kaertos 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Effectively, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is a "new" operating system. It makes some fundamental changes to the WinXP Operating system. My advice is to wait and install SP2 after most of your software providers say they are Windows XP SP2 ready (or compatible). Don't rush AOL X. I've been through too many AOL upgrades in the last few years as it is. I'm looking to get away from it, but am trapped there currently by the lack of DSL service in my area. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 My guess with longhorn is late 2006. They always delay these things. Intel is still charging ahead with ramping up the Ghz of the P4, even though AMD has given up on that shit and moved to a true 64-bit processor. If you want a gaming cpu, AMD has the better deal. If you want a video/multimedia CPU, the P4 is still encoding faster than comparable Athlon64. I believe AOL is currently teaching it's users how to count up to 10 as we speak.
