Guest jfscjrs Report post Posted August 27, 2004 Just thought I let you know the update on the Cena/Booker T match. "The following occured at the Smackdown! show in Sydney, Australia and will be shown on Smackdown! next Thursday: Booker T defeated John Cena in match three of their five match series. So, Booker now leads 2-1. Booker had his feet on the ropes for the pin. Post match, Cena ripped on the referee with a rap about how he was blind and screwed up." Unless they want the feet on the ropes thing to play out later, they really should have gone with a different finish.
Guest jfscjrs Report post Posted August 27, 2004 I agree, If it doesn't really add to anything in the future, than why bother. I think these series should be nonthing but clean finishes to make the matches mean more IMO.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 From the Observer website, heavily edited and spell-checked for YOUR pleasure... WWE Smackdown! house show report- August 27th (Sydney, Australia) by Dave Demer and Dan Lennard Theodore Long came out with Torrie Wilson and pumped up the crowd. The Aussie crowd were totally pumped for the event because its such a rare treat to see live wrestling. The show itself wasn't particularly good but the crowd was really excellent and really showed their appreciation throughout the night 1. RVD and Billy Gunn defeated Rene Dupree and Luther Reigns. Crowd were totally into Gunn and Van Dam. This was a reasonably decent and lenghty opening match. In the end, Gunn hit the Styles Clash and RVD hit the frog splash for the pin on Dupree. 2. Kenzo Suzuki (with Hiroko) pinned Charlie Haas (with Miss Jackie) Crowd were not really into this match. Hiroko interfered and at the end chucked something in the ring for Kenzo. Kenzo hit Haas with the object when the referee didn't see it, and Suzuki won. 3. Heidenreich (with Paul Heyman) defeated Funaki. Heyman got big time heat as he insulted Australia. Crowd chanted 'You suck' and 'You are a wanker'. This match was longer than I expected, and Funaki got some offense. Heidenreich won with a tilt-a-whirl slam. 4. Spike Dudley defeated Rey Mysterio. (WWE Cruiserweight Title Match) Disappointing match, actually. Dudley Boyz came out but were sent to the back after a few minutes to a huge pop. Spike won by grabbing the ropes, and pulling the tights. After the match Rey gave Spike the 619 and spent a long time embracing fans on his way to the back. 5. Undertaker beat JBL by DQ (WWE Championship Match). JBL said he hates Australia and would rather be in the U.S. instead of here. Taker came out to a huge ovation.Match took a long time to get underway, so much annoying dawdling. It was a decent length, mat-based submission match but quite boring. Crowd were entertaining themselves throwing beach balls to each other. For some unexplained reason, when the ref was knocked out Rene Dupree came down and tried using the belt on Taker but he got the big boot. In the end, Nick Patrick saw JBL use the belt on Taker and he got disqualified. Taker chokeslamed Dupree and tombstones JBL. Dawn Marie, Torrie Wilson and Miss Jackie shot t-shirts into the crowd. ***Intermission*** 6. Paul London and Billy Kidman beat the Dudley Boys (WWE Tag Team Title match). Crowd didn't really get into this match but it was okay. London impressed the crowd and won with the 450 splash. Theodore Long came out and said the next match was the third in the series between Cena and Booker T 7. Booker T beat John Cena. Average match, Booker won with feet on the ropes after rolling through a flying bodypress. Cena did a rap afterwards insulting Charles Robinson for his incompetence. Cena did the "Aussie Oy" thing. 8. Eddie Guerrero beat Kurt Angle (with Luther Reigns) Pretty good match. started off with good mat work, chain wrestling.Very funny bit when Eddie accused Kurt of pulling his hair - a couple minutes later, Kurt accused Eddie of pulling his hair to the referee. Eddie felt Kurt's head and said it wasn't possible, so Kurt demonstrated to the ref that he pulled the straps on his tights (which Eddie didn't). After this, twice Eddie irish whipped Kurt but held onto his tights. Eddie countered 3 angle slams during the match. One with a DDT and another with a hurricanrana. Eddie kicked out of an Angle Slam, got to the ropes in an ankle lock. Eddie eventually frog-splashed Kurt and got the pin. We left straight after the match and didnt see any post-match shenanigans. I estimated maybe 15,000 people, not really sure. Biggest Pops taker eddie cena mysterio Biggest Heat: heyman angle (you suck chants were huge) Notes: --All in all, it just didnt feel like it was a big event. The matches were pretty average and standard. Un-American events get that kind of treatment though inevitably. I'm surprised that Booker-Cena match will actually amount to something. --Overall, it was a reasonably good show – a lot better than I anticipated going into the arena. The card ran long (over 3½ hours) and the crowd were kinda burned out after intermission for the final three matches. Still, the crowd was rabid for nearly everything. --Guerrero and Angle suffered as some fans left during their bout (which was very good) to get to their cars to beat the post-card crush. In fact, when the house lights came on and Eddie came out for an encore appearance, he would’ve been a bit disappointed, I imagine, to see the arena was by that stage three quarters empty. --I assume JBL versus the Undertaker was put on just before intermission so the fans wouldn’t be disappointed by (a) the quality of the bout, and (b) the screwjob ending. Crowd seemed OK with both though. I think people were just rapt to see Undertaker live. If I’m not mistaken this is the first time Taker (and Guerrero) have toured Australia. --Dudleyz play the big bullies very well in their tag match with London & Kidman. I kinda like the London/Kidman tandem - very 80's in style but it works for me. --The Divas appeared twice to welcome the fans and give away shirts but didn’t have a bikini popularity contest. Teddy Long also made two appearances. --I’ve been to three WWE in Australia cards now and this was the weakest of them but still entertaining.

Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I doubt the WWE wants to alienate a good portion of their loyal Australian fans by pretending a match didn't happen.

Guest Tjhe CyNick Report post Posted August 28, 2004 They could also bring the cameras to the third Aussie show and that way they'd have both matches taped and could use either one. Anyway, this is going just as I expected. Cena got the win at the PPV so they could have a baby win on a heel heavy show. Now BT has to get the lead so the pressure is on Cena. Obviously Cena will tie it up, and then I guess they'll finish it off at No Mercy. Witht he feet on the ropes thing, I guess thats just because they see Cena as a top guy and top level babyfaces shouldn't be doing clean jobs, best of 5 series or not. I don't mean that Booker has to win clean, just that he should cheat in another way.

Guest JoeyStyles Report post Posted August 29, 2004 JBL is not setting the world on fire with his pathetic world title reign so hopefully he will eventually get demoted to midcard status, but that means Taker will be the new WWE champ and that's what SD does not need right now.
