Bored 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 SATURDAY #1 USC vs. Virginia Tech, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN Finally the season is about to begin, all be it a tease with just one game (Miami of Ohio plays I-AA Indiana State but not on t.v.). USC should win this game rather comfortably but wouldn't be a shock for Va Tech to keep it interesting for a little while. The guy on the spot Saturday with sophomore wide reciever Steve Smith who now becomes the #1 target for Matt Leinart.
Guest Report post Posted August 28, 2004 For USC this will be nothing more than a pickup game, I hope.

yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I'm torn. I'm really not an LSU fan, but everyone around me is. If USC loses, LSU goes up in the polls. For my sister's birthday, I'm bringing her to an LSU game (october) and it'd be nice to see that they are really playing for something. Gah, sooo confused. Regardless, it's time for FOOTBALL!!!!! For my sister's birthday, I'm bringing her to an LSU game (october) and it'd be nice to see that they are really playing for something. Gah, sooo confused. Regardless, it's time for FOOTBALL!!!!! If USC loses OU will become #1 in the polls and probably not leave #1 until they are beaten(which probably won't happen. undefeated Orange Bowl baby!) Has that ever happened before? USC and OU start the season at #1 and #2 and they spend the entire season at #1 and #2 before playing each other for the national title undefeated? That'd be kind of wild. And I want it to happen. But I'd also like to see those smug bastards at SC lose there season opener.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Smug bastards? In all the interviews I've read, Pete Carroll and his players seem like one of the most humble bunches of guys in 1-A. I'm looking forward to the came, but I think it's going to be USC by 2 touchdowns. Keeping it close seems to be the best VT can do against these mutants. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I don't hate USC, but I'm not a fan for sure. I'll take them over UCLA any day of the week. I think not having Mike Williams will hurt them more than they think and I believe they will lose their preseason number 1 ranking soon enough. VT will not win tonight. Anyhoo, GO MIAMI HURRICANES!!! Guest Flyboy Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Anyhoo, GO MIAMI HURRICANES!!! With Brock Berlin at QB? Anyhow -- it's football time and I'm excited about it.
strummer 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 USC not looking sharp early on, Virginia Tech is getting a consistent pass rush. 10-7 VT.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Va Tech is completely outplaying USC to this point. The Tatupu interception is the only reason USC is in front for the moment. Va Tech is moving the ball pretty much at will and Leinart seems rattled and that tendinitis in his elbow I think is effecting him. Va Tech td, they take the lead. It's pretty much a road game as you can tell for USC. They better be careful as they are in serious danger of getting upset the way things are going.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Anyhow -- it's football time and I'm excited about it. Ditto. Football has been missed........ badly By me, anyways.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Also remember that USC is breaking in new receivers as well, and Virginia Tech has always been a great early season team.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 That phantom offensive pass interference call was huge, it's completely changed the momentum of the game. USC strikes quickly with the long td to Bush.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Heh... that was BLATANT pass interference right there. V-Tech gets a fresh set of downs.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Man, that personal foul was just fucking stupid... USC's players have turned into Ohio State's players so quickly it isn't funny.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 V-Tech puts 3 on the board with 8:00 left in the game. USC 14, V-Tech 13 Don't be surprised to see an onside kick from V-Tech if they have any confidence in their kicker.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Man, THAT was a chokehold that Jimmy Williams slapped onto Reggie Bush for the stop. Not exactly kosher, but it worked.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 SHIT! Leinart to Bush for another 6. PAT good. USC 21, V-Tech
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 This is going to be Reggie Bush's break out game. As a wide receiver. Three touchdown catches.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 This, aside from the Cal game in October was probably USC's toughest game. Reggie Bush is going to be a superstar.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Bush is good, no question, but Virginia Tech IS a shadow of their former selves. Losing several players indefinitely for conduct reasons, Marcus Vick being #1 with a bullet, certainly didn't help. That being said, Oregon State is the only team besides Cal that has a prayer against USC the way things look right now.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 That's definitley true because if VT had Marcus Vick, they'd probably have a great shot at winning this game. And Oregon State gets USC in Corvallis this year, but USC's offense should probably be in gear by the time that game happens.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 And THAT is the game, as Randall fumbles the ball during a sack and USC recovers with about 2:00 left.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Well Dama, the "smug bastards" didn't lose their opener as you had hoped, but it was close.
teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 The tiebreaker for Leinart's passing yards is 270, according to www.FoxSports.com. I think that a LOT of people, myself included, went for 300+ on our guesses.

teke184 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 A lot of you did. I had 280. Dama and Spaceman Spiff both had 275, which are the closest guesses I've seen so far.
