I despise this.

Original dialogue.

[speaking to hologram]

V: What is thy bidding, my master?

E: There is a great disturbance in the force.

V: I have felt it.

E: We have a new enemy. Luke Skywalker.

V: Yes, my master.

E: He could destroy us.

V: He’s just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

E: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.

V: If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally.

E: Yes. (coming to realization) Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?

V: He will join us or die, my Master.

And now, click here for the video of the new version.

The original version is so much tigher, to the point, and gets the job done. Why must George Lucas feel that he needs to just flat out explain certain things to the viewer now like we're some sort of moron? My hate for Lucas, the most overrated man in the hollywood, continues.

Not that it matters to anyone, but for future first time viewers of the films, there will no longer be a big twist, unless people show their kids or whatever the original versions.

*sigh*

Sincerely,

So why couldn't they just keep the original dialogue?

Or does Lucas really think the audience is that stupid?

The only (minor) problem I have is the "search your feelings" line, which doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the dialogue. I suppose Lucas wanted to make a full circle when Vader says the same thing later on.

Also, I dunno what people are talking about "spoilers" with Star Wars anymore... even my five year old niece knows Vader is Skywalker's daddy.

Damnit, someone please edit my title.

Can't do it, Downhome. It's just going to sit there and be wrong.

Why does Lucas feel the need to "improve" upon these movies? Only a few of the changes have actually made their respective scenes better, and some are downright sacrilegious (if you worship Star Wars, that is :)). My signature picture pretty much says it all.

Funny you should mention the spoiler issue - I found out Vader was Luke's father by glancing at the back of a trading card (at someone else's house) LONG before I saw ESB. Sad, isn't it?

EDIT: Never mind about the picture; it's in the shop for repairs.
