Without a Paddle - $7 million ($37.8 million) 3. Anacondas - $6.4 million ($22.2 million) 4. Paparazzi - $6.2 million ($6.2 million) 5. The Cookout - $5.6 million ($5.6 million) 6. The Princess Diaries 2 - $5.42 million ($83.3 million) 7. Wicker Park - $5.4 million ($5.4 million) 8. Collateral - $5 million ($87.4 million) 9. Vanity Fair - $4.8 million ($4.8 million) 10. The Bourne Supremacy - $4.1 million ($163.5 million) Attribute it to the holidays and not the lack of any good films, of course. Any other weekend, The Cookout and Paparazzi would have set records. Maybe this means that this Taxi movie will bomb, too. Has anybody seen the trailer for this? Good lord. I'm glad to see Hero on top(with an astonishing $8.8 million) since I saw it Saturday. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 Hero still took a 51% hit. That's a shame. Bourne Supremacy only dipped 11%? Damn impressive, good for Matt Damon. I'm happy it's surpassing that I Robot thing. Spider-Man 2 nowhere near the top 20 it seems, but it should be within a week or so of matching Passion of the Christ ($370 million) but still $7 million shy of LOTR3. Will it match it? I can't really understand the concept of people wanting...to see movies do badly. I mean whether it does or not hows it affecting you? I personally liked the Paparazzi previews, and actually want to see it. Plus the character just had that Christian Bale look, which makes me want to see it even more. I live near an arts theatre and every Tuesday they only charge $6 for a flick so I try and go every Tuesday to see it. Napoleon Dynamite is the only thing I'm interested in. All I know is that it did well at Sundance and it has Hilary's sister. Dynamite sucks, don't believe the hype. Ebert hated it. (Gave it *1/2). So I'm sceptical. But at $6 and only 80 minutes- I don't mind checking it. Bourne kicks ass! I love that this movie is still doing so well. Bourne and Collateral look to be the late summer sleeps. Those were two really good movies so I'm happy to see that. Vanity Fair just had bomb written all over it. Those movies just never seem to do well. Nothing new this week opened up good. I saw Vanity Fair. It was very well done but you just can't turn William Maypeace Thackery's 800 page novel into a 2 hr movie. Character development was very week and the characters never aged. The acting was well done and they did a perfect job of capturing 19th century England- it just had too many problems for me to really like it. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2004 The odd thing about Vanity Fair is that it's been made at least 2 other times that I know of, both in the 30s. I think Myrna Loy was in one version under the actual title...and of course the most notable version was the 1935 movie Becky Sharp, which is noted now as being the first film in full blown 3 color Technicolor. However, The Cookout looks like contender for Worst Movie of the Year. Granted, Super Babies, White Chicks, and Soul Plane (why do studios think black folks like REALLY SHITTY MOVIES?) are tough competition, but I have a lot of faith in it, if only for that. Well, there are a lot of shitty movies to go around this summer for everyone. Oh--and while The Cookout is doing a lot better, it has something else in common with Superbabies: 0% at Rotten Tomatoes. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2004 Without a Paddle is the only comedy out in the marketplace right now. So people who want a good laugh will just take a flyer on it. Seth Green is a very likeable character so there ya go. I read a profile on Reese Witherspoon and it said Vanity Fair is 800 pages long.
