I hate it. I can't do anything. Its hard to maneuver and work the buttons to do anything. I've caught on to every wrestling game but this one. I've sat on it for months trying to catch on but can't. I'm going to sell it. Thanks for "great" recommendation TSM!

You sound just like my cousin who has never been about to figure out how to play the game even though I've went through it with him step by step about a million times.

 

It took me a while to learn, but not too long. Once you figure it out though, it'll just click with you and you'll start going off in the game.

Does'nt the game have a training mode? Fire Pro is not a button masher where you can just push any button and expect to see the Tiger Driver 91 be excuted everytime you push B button .

Not much patience is required--just have to learn the timing. It's just as the wrestlers touch. Yeah, it took me a while when I first got Fire Pro S, but now it's practically second nature. Remember you also have to work up from the weaker moves (B moves, then A moves, then B+A moves).

 

Oh, feel free to blow your money on Metroid if the original packaging means that much to you. However, for a few bucks more you can get Zero Mission, which lets you play the original Metroid when you beat the game on any difficulty (if you're already a Metroid vet, that's little more than a warm up). Yes, it's the original Metroid that can be played on GBA--no linking up to Prime required.

 

It's just like most of the NES Classics releases--overpriced AND available in a better form.

I don't need any extra bells and whistles. I love those games in their simplicity. Its harkens back to my childhood. As with FPW, complicated games just really aren't up my ally. So for 19 bucks I can buy these games like they are cds or dvds. Its a beautiful thing. I have my NES Classic Series System to play them on. It rules.

I started this thread merely to voice my opinion on a game that is largely consider a classic here. Years of it being dubbed as the greatest wrestling game on TSM caught my interest. I did a search of TSM for threads made in regards to this game. Everyone gave it a 10/10 and proclaimed it the bomb. Because of this, I decided to purchase the game blind. I am not mad with my TSM peers. But it must be noted that when aother TSM members decides to do a search and see other reactions to this game that they'll see this thread. And hopefully they can rent it or at least give it a second thought after hearing someone elses opinion. Its not an easy game and can get frustrating. Its waht people need to hear before they drop their hard earned money, don't you think? Where is the hypocracy in the thread? I said it was hard, i tried to catch on for awhile, and because of this, decided that the game was not for me. Again, I ask, where is the hypocracy?

Fair enough. Although you could probably find a used Zero Mission *right now* (instead of waiting for the official release) that has Metroid NES unlocked, and get two games for the price of one. However, my extremely cheap Polish side wants to get the best bang for the buck, so I wanted you to know just in case you weren't aware.

 

Xevious and Bomberman are the only ones that I believe aren't available in another form (and Ice Climbers, but who cares about that?). However, Pac Man Collection costs LESS new than the NES Classics Pac Man. Stuff like that irks me and I wish Nintendo wouldn't waste the opportunity and re-release classics that aren't out on GBA already and haven't been revived plenty of times.

Not directed at me, but...

 

The game isn't "shit" because you suck at it, dude. However, I will conceed that stuff like having to be PIN-POINT ACCURATE when using the punches / kicks / dropkicks or when hitting top rope moves (which have bizarre distinctions like a moonsault that only hits standing opponents, one that only hits opponents laying down) somewhat annoy me, but I chalk it up as part of the painstaking approach to detail. The Fire Pro games have a unique "timing" to them that is much easier overall that having to insanely mash buttons to win a grapple, and certainly was a template for the AKI games (although a lot of people may prefer the easier-to-learn AKI grapples over Fire Pro's timing-based system, such as yourself).

 

However, not many rental places let you rent portable games, and I don't think you'll see any major chains carrying import titles. However, since I usually see the game sell for around 10 bucks or less (used), that's no biggie.

One who doesn't give a shit about the technical aspects of wrestling and pyschology shouldn't get this. Why would I worry about breathing in a damn video game? Its realistic to a true hardcore wrestling fan, but to me, its just not worth my hassle. THUS, IN MY OPINION, the game could be qualified as shit. There's certain aspects that don't appeal to me. So, as Mr. Piss taught, my PREFERENCE points to the direction of shit.

Now you don't want to be like the Ultimate Warrior and run the ropes 6 times only doing clotheslines or else you will get tired. You also don't want to take a series of kicks from one of the MMA fighters because the second they take you down, you will get choked out.

Pacing yourself is a great part of the game. In FPW2 for GBA I completely dominated a match as Vader...and got so winded I knocked myself out. I lost without being touched.

I think that would be worse, since the controls are pretty sloppy.

 

In LoW1 the Irish whip/running is a little hard to get to respond, and the same problem is in the second one, except they run ultra fast. The chain wrestling system takes time getting use to and generally annoys people or gets praise for being "new".

The gameplay there is horrible, its just a lot easier to catch up on/ Plus I can't actually identify who I am playing. In FPW, you're just a little coloured blob of nothingness. I am currently trying to sell it somewhere in my city, I hope there is a wrestling nerd lying in the wings dying for this game. Maybe Scott Keith wants to buy it.

If this were the mid-to-late 90's, when wrestling games were largely "arcade"-style affairs, I'd say I'd agree.

 

However, the AKI titles are very much sims and they were very successful. The Smackdown series went from a straight-up arcade-style wrestler and has evolved into a sim-style game, to no visible detriment to the series' sales. Virtually every wrestling game on the market these days is more of the simulation style.

 

A good "arcade" style wrestling game would be Ultimate Muscle for Gamecube (better than the PS2 game), which is hella-fun, fast, insane, but simplistic. It's much closer to stuff like Slam Masters than the current crop of wrestling titles.
