Another list ESPN didn't do but should have

Recommended Posts

ESPN did the 25 best sports movies of the last 25 years... now how about the worst sports movies?

To start off:

The Fan

Eddie

SlapShot 2

Rocky V

Those "little kid inexplicably winds up in the major leagues" baseball movies from the early 90's

Anything with "Air Bud" in the title

Rookie of the Year. Blech, makes me want to puke on my keyboard.

I was tempted to say the movie where a 12 year old manages the Minnesota Twins (no wonder they sucked then), but I forgot the name of it and it wasn't TOO bad.

The Sandlot is the best.

Angels in the Endzone was horrible, but Angels in the Outfield was good enough.

Any Given Sunday was a huge letdown, but I wouldn't call it one of the worst ever. At least Al Pacino canceled out the suck of Jamie Fox (or whoever played the QB with an ego problem that got his car smashed up by L.T.)

Staravenger, you're thinking of Little Big League, when the kid manages the Twinkies.

My worst ever is Major League: Back to the Minors

Oh, and Celtic Pride.

The list has great credibility with "The Fan" at #1. That movie is a complete train wreck and I've watched it about 20 times simply because it's so incredibly bad. I seriously doubt the director had ever watched a baseball game in their life. And as the article how do you screw up a movie with Robert DeNiro playing a psycho, Wesley Snipes as a baseball player, and let's not forget Benicio Del Toro in a supporting role.

I actually enjoyed Major League: BTTM, but nowhere near as good as the original.

Space Jam was HORRIBLE. Completely unrealistic basketball, Michael Jordan couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, and Bill Murray playing. The only bright spots are Jordan playing Minor League baseball and Sylvester saying "we've got balls" and opens a locker full of sports balls.

While I agree with most everyone about what crack Jango must be smoking to hate on AITO and Sandlot, I don't get the "love" for Little Giants... other than having Al "Don't Call Me Al Bundy" Bundy in it, I remember nothing about the movie

Can't believe I forgot Space Jam, too. The worst of both worlds.

And Bored, don't forget The Fan also had John Kruk getting sliced open by DeNiro... back at the time of the movie I was like "Noooooo" (even though I knew it was fake) because I liked Kruk the player... however, I dislike Kruk the analyist and can take sick pleasure in the scene now.

Fuck you guys, I liked Space Jam.

I did too....when I was ten. Now I can watch it in 20 minutes thanks to the fast forward button since most of the scenes are horrible. Wayne Knight had the funniest character in the movie probably.

Small co-starring roles of Mugsy Bouges, Shawn Bradley, Charles Barkley (who promised not to date Madonna again), Patrick Ewing, and Larry Johnson was OK, but the acting ability combined couldn't touch Mark Hamills lightsaber clip.

I like Little Giants. It's a good movie with a good message. Rebel against those who say that you aren't good enough, and make up your own damn team.

I also liked Space Jam. Speaking of Space Jam, anyone remember the part where Barkley goes to play some basketball at some park and some person was like "Begone wannabe, begone". Was that a he or a she?

Was that a he-she?

Probably that. That scene was one of countless scenes that was really stupid or horrible.

Yeah, I thought that was a little unneccesary.

How about Summer Catch?  Any movie with Freddie Prinze Jr. in it can't be good.

*shudders*

Goddamnit, I liked Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield (except for the whiny little kid), Rookie of the Year (except for Daniel Stern, he sucks), and Little Giants (Ed O'Neill and Rick Moranis were good). Sandlot was probably one of the best ones (me marks for James Earl Jones and his dog and the Babe Ruth ball)

And I'm not saying the Rocky sequels suck, but where's the medical personnel in Rocky III and IV? Did Apollo Creed and the Mick have to die because the medics were nonexistent? That always bugged me.

The Sandlot does have that terribly annoying Smalls kid. My god why do they hang out with that kid?

Well, most of them ARE dorks except for...whats his name. Benny? You had the fat kid, the token black kid, the buck toothed kid with thick glasses who makes out with the lifeguard, the two brothers with the annoying little one, and you have yaya.

But yeah, Smalls was uber-annoying, and no one back then didn't know who Babe Ruth was. Hell, everyone now knows who he was at least.

Me, I'd hang out with Denis Leary's kid eight days a week, man.

But anyway, yeah, everyone but Benny was a total geek in that movie. I bet the kid with the glasses turned out to be a sabermetrician or something.

Oh that's right. Which kid "got into the 60s"? Was that Yeah-Yeah?

I think they should do a remake called "Al Keiper's Sandlot," where they never do try to get the ball back from the beast because, shit, that thing has win shares like nobody's business.

The tall kid with glasses...I forgot his name in the movie. I think he later became a Hoffa stunt-double by mixing himself in a cement truck and being buried somewhere in Giants Stadium.

:headbang:

Concurred for Rocky V, Eddie, Juwanna Mann, Slapshot 2, Caddyshack 2 and Summer Catch.

Idiocy to mention Space Jam, Little Big League and Rookie of the Year. They were kids movies, generally speaking.

The Sandlot kicked ass. I'll not have another word about whether or not it was bad. But by all means, argue about the kids in it, that was some funny shit on here.

And yes, even as kids movies, both Angels and anything with Air Bud or Most Valuble Primate in the title were pretty tough to swallow. By the way, Most Vertical Primate counts in that category.

Major League Back To The Minors gets my vote.

They couldn't act out of a paper bag

Though I've used a similar expression, how would you act out of a bag anyway? And furthermore, is this a huge bag or are the actors just shrunken?
