UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2004 My team is the 6th placer, the Phillies. 8.0 games out of the Wildcard on Sept. 2nd. Will be 4.0 with a (likely) win in a few innings. Cubs are losing and a SF loss later would make it 3.5.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Every team in contention has its fair share of things standing in their way en route to winning the WC. The Giants are the Giants and aside from Bonds and Schmidt, they're nothing. But a soft schedule make result in them fall ass-backwards into the spot. The Cubs have a fairly easy schedule, but have been playing so horribly on a fundamental level, it may not matter. The Astros have cooled off a bit, dropping three of five to the Bucs this weekend. And they've got the Cards six more times, so it'll be an uphill battle. The Marlins have been playing great ball, but face the challenge of a long roadtrip (including a few "home" games on the road) and more games than days left in the season. The Padres are fading fast, having lost most of their recent games. Plus they've still got seven with the Dodgers.

They split a 4 game series with the Rockies. In their defense it was in Denver and the Rockies have played all the rest of the NL west tough. Earlier in the week they took 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals and the more games with the Dodgers the better. The Dodgers are not a team to be feared. It is a team full of players who are having career years and average at best pitching.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 13, 2004 I'm impressed anyone can win a series (even if only 2-1) against the Cardinals lately. Best team in the Majors of course, and show no real signs of being over-thrown from the NL Central. Of course, the Central isn't that great of a division with Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee. Until recently, the Astros were hardly considered a wild card threat, and the Cubs haven't been playing that good for weeks.
