“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

A mysterious young man sits on the ledge of the rooftop of the Saotome building, overlooking the SWF’s practice facility in Los Angeles, California. With the moon obscured by clouds, his features are easily identifiable in the night sky. But, he clearly seems to have a lot on his mind.

“I’ve waited months for the opportunity to get my revenge,” he thinks to himself. “I bode my time and waited to bring you to justice… And now, you managed to convince people that you’ve changed; that you walk on the side of the angels…”

The young man snorts loudly, as though the very idea offends him. “You might have fooled them, but you haven’t fooled me! I know you for the person that you truly are; I know what kind of a man is hiding behind the façade you’ve decided to wear. You’re not going to be able to keep that act up for long. Let’s face it: you don’t know how to walk with the angels! Sooner or later, you’re going to slip; you’ll take a loss too hard, or you’ll get bent out of shape over a fan reaction. Something’s going to happen to cause you to reveal your true colors… And when that happens, I’ll be waiting. Waiting to make you pay for what you did to me.”

The young man runs his hands through his hair and sighs loudly. “And now, I have this ladder match. Hell, that changes EVERYTHING! I mean, I came to the SWF for only one reason: to get my revenge. A chance to win the Cruiserweight Championship is an opportunity that I didn’t plan for. I didn’t want to focus on winning any titles until I did what I came here to do, but this is different. Being the Cruiserweight Champion is a dream that I’ve had since I first BECAME a wrestler; do I have the strength of conviction to turn down this opportunity? Is my hatred stronger than my passion?”

The young man hangs his head down. “Just how far am I willing to go to win this match? Spike Jenkins and Ryan Dustin are going to be gunning for me, trying just as hard to win the match as I am. But I know that, if I just wrestle from the heart, and go all out to win Cruiserweight gold the way that I know I’m able to, I can beat those guys. Dustin’s gotten the better of me in the past, but I’ve got him figured out now. I know his moves; I know his timing. He’s not going to beat me a third time… And Spike? We may have never wrestled before, but Michael has given a full breakdown about his technique; everything from his body language before doing certain moves to what hand he wipes his ass with. He’s got experience on his side, but he’ll go down to the Bird Dropping, just like everyone else! And, with these guys, I don’t need much of a head start; if I can just get the first step up the ladder, neither one of them is fast enough to catch me.”

The young man looks to the sky as though seeking absolution for something unknown. “And what happens if DO I actually win? Can I dedicate myself to defending the Title? What of my revenge? Can I turn down my hatred to give the Cruiserweight Title the attention that it deserves? Do I dare lay down the sword to follow my dream?”

The young man stares out into space for hours. He watches people filing in and out of the practice facility, until he spies one in particular…

THE one.

His target. His reason for coming to the SWF.

And he stares intensely at his target for what seems like an eternity, a fierce emotional battle taking place within him, as he tries to decide whether to pursue the Lady or the Tiger. Eventually, the target, along with his entourage, drive away, and the young man watches their vehicle until it goes out of sight. He sighs deeply and then reaches into his pocket to retrieve a cellular phone. Flipping it open, he hits his speed dial…

“Mike?”

“…”

“No,” replies the young man. “Change of plans…”

This makes a lot of sense to me now. Nice! And it hypes the ladder match, so, very nice!
