MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2004 Hm--the long-rumored PSTwo is announced to launch before the DS--coincidence? Sony has to do something to distract people from the fact that they aren't saying much about their own portable system.
dubq 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 So, has anyone picked up one of these? I'm thinking of trading in my current PS2 to see what kind of deal I can get, but I was just curious if anyone had one and/or had heard about any hardware problems with this new console? Scroby 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I have seen these at my store and there freaking slim as hell. Its about 75% long as the old PS2, and the disc trey is gone, its now a pop up disc trey. I say if you have the old one, keep it because it can not use the Harddrive and you can't use the old multi-tap, eventually Sony is gonna put a new one out just for the system. The only plus I actually see with the new one is that its sleeker and has a built in internet adaptor. So I think the system is only good if you don't already own a PS2. Scroby 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2004 I just got a job today and I have been thinking of getting a PS2 for the online capability. would this new one be a good choice? I'd say yes and no. Yes because it has a built in network adaptor No because if you wanna get on Final Fantasy online, you need the harddrive and the PStwo does not support the harddrive. I have no use for a multi-tap or a harddrive, personally.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I bought my GF one (here in Ann Arbor they were all sold out), but I found one while vacationing in Idaho last weekend), and she says that it works just fine... I bought her BG:DA 1 and 2 and she also has Drakan to keep her occupied. I wonder if the design of not having a HD means that Sony has basically given up on the idea? That was the one advatage that the X-Box had over the PS2, IMO.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I wonder if the design of not having a HD means that Sony has basically given up on the idea? That was the one advatage that the X-Box had over the PS2, IMO. Sony explained they consider it an "enthusiast" device that anyone who was interested in getting has already gotten by now. How many games actually require it, even? I think also that the actual profit Sony would make on it is low, so it's better for them to soak you for memory cards. MS, on the other hand, take a hit with the XBox primarily because of the hard drive, and MS themselves were saying they'll probably leave it out of X-Box Next. dubq 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 It also doesn't help that the HDD, you have to buy with that god-awful Final Fantasy game. I, personally, have never seen nor heard of an instance where you could by the HDD separate [so I may be wrong], and I certainly do not want to waste my time/money playing/buying another crappy Squeenix game. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I already know three people who have their new model PS2s overheat and die, as well as one of them had his San Andreas disc scratched. Sounds like another dud, and one that dies even faster than the last model. Stick with the big one.
