Wilson Co. Teen Found Chained to a Bed

In Wilson County, a detective says it's the worst case of child abuse he's ever seen.

Lebanon police say a 15-year-old boy was chained to a bed for almost 5 months and nearly starved to death.

Detectives showed us the locks and chains they say were used to restrain him.  Police say they went to the home on Wilson Avenue yesterday -- after a call from the Department of Children's Services.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and they told police he only weighed 49 pounds. Detectives say he was fed only soup and water.

"He seemed to be relieved. In the words of one of the DCS workers, when she walked into the house, the child ran up to her, put his arms around her, and begged her not to leave", said Detective Massey.

Neighbors say the Osbornes have only lived in their home for a few months.

"That's just very shocking.  We've heard a couple of kids in the back yard, but did not know they had no 15 year old", said neighbor, Ramona Wattenbarger.

His father and stepmother, James and Christie Osborne, were taken to jail and charged with aggravated child abuse.

The teenager is out of the hospital, but will return for two more days of treatment.

DCS has investigated the Osbornes twice in the past,  once in 2001 and again in 2003.  They were looking into reports of physical abuse, but found no evidence to support the allegations.

The teenager last visited the doctor in January of 2004, and was at the time physically fit.

The couple's three other children were put in state custody.  Detectives say the boy's father blamed what was happening on his wife.

“He said, ‘I didn’t know what to do.  I was scared she was going to leave and take the kids.  She kept threatening the kids”, said Detective Massey.

Police say Christie Osborne denies ever using chains to restrain the boy.  He's expected to recover and is now out of the hospital and living with a foster family.

The Osbornes will be in court Thursday morning.

Wilson Co. Child Abuse Suspects In Court

A detective says it's the worst case of child abuse he's ever seen - a 15 year-old boy found chained to a bed, nearly starved to death. On Thursday morning, the two people accused of the crime were in court.

The suspects in the case are the child's mom and step-dad.

The hearing on Thursday morning was to determine whether or not DCS officials had the right to take the victim, 15, as well as three other children, from the home of Christie and James Osborne in Lebanon.

The Osbornes were handcuffed and in shackles when they arrived in the courtroom Thursday.  Both are accused of child abuse and neglect.

Lebanon police and DCS officials found the 15 year-old victim on Wednesday and took him into custody, along with the three other children from that home.

He weighed only 49 pounds and was taken to the hospital.  He’s doing O.K., according to officials.

The boy was allegedly only given water and soup for the past five months.

The victim’s aunt, Frances Morton, said, “Anybody who watched this to go on is to blame”.

The outcome of Thursday’s hearing is that all four of the children will remain in state custody and that there’s a gag order in the case.

That is just pure sickness. I can't believe that people would do that to a kid. What could he have done that was horrible enough to warrant that kind of treatment. Give them a nice long 30 year prison sentence if you ask me.
